Yes and Socrates laid out the pitfalls way back when.. he was required reading for those who wanted to be considered educated in the days of the FFs. And the Socratic method was valued over antagonistic propounding of one -sided views.

Though The Republic was actually written by Plato, using Socrates' voice...

Socratic method, also known as maieutics, method of elenchus, elenctic method, or Socratic debate, is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presumptions.

Socrates was required reading for me as well.

I`m certain our founding fathers were also well versed in socratic thinking.

I'm not sure what your point is supposed to be. Most politicians are lawyers. And law school is based on the Socratic Method.
