It is wickedly brutal 😣 Local gov offices, schools, USPS and most business's closed. I need a covering over my mouth and nostrils to breath outside then the moist breath freezes and hurts. Even the Lab. dogs are doing te 4 legged shuffle while doing their business. Within minutes they are limping needing in. It's a battle to keep the woodstove going and the water pipes from freezing. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

In Chicago you can throw boiling water into the air, and it instantly turns to snow!IP: Logged |

Record Cold Forces Rethink on Global Warming Tom Harris and Dr. Tim Ball January 29, 2019 Headlines around the world are reporting exceptionally frigid conditions and unusually high levels of snowfall in recent weeks. They tout these events as records, but few people understand how short the record actually is -- usually less than 50 years, a mere instant in Earth’s 4.6-billion year history. The reality is that, when viewed in a wider context, there is nothing unusual about current weather patterns. Despite this fact, the media -- directly, indirectly, or by inference -- often attribute the current weather to global warming. Yes, they now call it climate change. But that is because activists realized, around 2004, that the warming predicted by the computer models on which the scare is based was not actually happening. Carbon dioxide (CO2) levels continued to increase, but the temperature stopped increasing. So, the evidence no longer fit the theory. English biologist Thomas Huxley commented on this dilemma over a century ago: "The great tragedy of science -- the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact."..... http://pjmedia.com/trending/record-cold-forces-rethink-on-global-warming/

Hi Juni! Sure hope you and your doggies get through this in the best way, without harm to your home.I lived on the right mitt, then the left mitt of Michigan 20+ years ago. The temps were below 0-F at night, and during the day only in the single digits during one of the Januaries I was there. 14 degrees actually started feeling "warm"?? and 32 degrees felt like you only need a light jacket?? Didn't drive my car, which was packed-in with snows.. from the snow-plow that cleared the parking-lot for the apartments. Had to use the bus!! I remember having to protect lungs and face from the cold. I had metal-rim glasses. Took my metal pierced earings out too. Waited what seemed for ever for the busses on the sides of streets where I could wait. Those bus-drivers are AWESOME handling hills and corners in the snow!!! especially at night!! wow. Kudos to their skills. .. Said that, so you know I know a tiny bit of what you're going through right now. *WARM hug* Life really SLOWS DOWN during times like that. And yet, there is Beauty everywhere too, when you look for it. The Moon at night can appear to have Rainbows encircling it. And during clear nights, the lights (moon or security lamps) that shine across the tops of crusty or fluffy snows can look like a carpet of Diamonds. If you own a house Juni, keep that snow from melting into your soffits. My apartment was on the top floor. When the ice (and snow) melted, it got INTO the attic, wet down all the blow-in insulation, wet the drywall on the ceiling. It looked like I was standing under a cow's belly, as the drywall bowed in an extreme way. I moved my furniture, my computer, my bed. 20 minutes later, ALL OF the ceiling came BOOMING down. Maintenance men had to come with snow-shovels and barrels to pick up the wet material. Of course, that was perfect-timing to get me out of my Lease at that time, as I was getting ready for a relo here to Florida!! It was April. The temperature when I got on the plane was 9-degrees, and when I got to Florida, it was 87-degreesF!! haha Your blood thins out here... I sweated profusely for 4 whole months. Then there was the time I was in my later 20s, and had my baby (less than a year old). Had my first house. Lived in the mid-Atlantic States then. The temperature overnight got down to -14degrees F. We had an out door oil tank next to the house. The oil in the tank turned to "jelly". We had to call the fuel company and they poured liquid-heat into the tank to re-liquify it. I had a Colonial style sofa, with wings. We had a fireplace with an insert. Lucky for us, I had had a chimney sweep take care of our chimney. We had wood stacks of logs. Had to move the sofa right up to the fireplace, and I placed a blanket for my baby to play. We kept ourselves warm for a few weeks sleeping and living in front of the fireplace! .. Our house had had forced water heating, with pipes IN the concrete slab. We were sooo worried about bursting pipes. The heater guy saw that water was frozen along part of the pipeline. He 'found' where it was, and was able to sufficiently heat it, and it unblocked without bursting. We were Blessed!!! ~oh sheesh. PLEASE Take Care!!!!!

As an engineer, I am extremely concerned about the temperature trendline in coming years which is indicating prolonged -60 to -70 degrees Celcius for longer duration.

Mirage, as you lived it' you know NW MI can be cruel in winter. Below zero Jan & Feb is normal but the mean temp of -30 is not. Rare and I`m glad it and the snow storm that went with it is behind us. Now we need to get roof`s shoveled off and plowed out. Our pipes didn`t freeze as we were able to keep water running because the grid held up and kept us safe. That was our biggest worry. I hope the south is back to normal and you southerners are enjoying a sunny groundhogs day. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.
