Given that a) the House is divided on impeachment and the current Senate will never convict

And b) that the judiciary have no authority over congress on impeachment

How do the Trumpettes here justify or even explain such a threat?

You're right. The Senate would never vote to convict President Trump since he hasn't done anything impeachable.

But impeachment isn't what this exercise is all about. Democrats want the issue in the headlines of the leftist press to influence voters in the 2020 election. I doubt it will work as most voters are sick of the issue and see it as simple harassment of the President.

I think President Trump didn't fully explain what he would take all the way to the Supreme Court. It's the subpoenas for his tax returns, financial records and subpoenas for cabinet members and agency heads to testify in House hearings.
