There is a lot in this article, which still won't matter to the conservatives here. The quoted part is something I learned about two weeks ago, when the Democrats tried to close the loophole, and the GOP made sure that it wouldn't be closed.

quote:
If it is allowed to go into effect, the law would also have a series of knock-on effects on women’s rights.

Here is just one: because of exemptions in marital rape laws in Ohio, a woman can be drugged and raped by her husband. If she discovered she was pregnant after the fetus has cardiac activity, the state could then force her to carry the pregnancy to term.

“Ohio became a much less safe state for women, and I have two daughters,” said Greta Johnson, a former prosecutor and state representative who tried to end the marital rape exemption. Democrats offered an amendment to close the loophole as the Republican supermajority pushed through the six-week law ban. It was rejected.

The situation, Johnson said, is “very sobering”.

Since they usually vote the way their constituents want them to vote - or that's what they say - why would the conservatives want men to be able to rape their wives? The GOP made me sick before, and this - this has pushed me over the edge. I have no respect for anyone who supports this, or the "heartbeat" bills. They just want to control women. Welcome to the handmaid's tale.

Georgia is about to have a Heartbeat Bill. It's passed and awaiting Governor Kemp's signature. Let me be clear that rape, incest, and the risk of the life of the mother are exceptions. But some people did something in other states and wanted to be able to have a baby and make the baby "comfortable" until they decide whether or not to execute the baby.

I'm glad they made those exceptions.
