Right or wrong, Asians are perceived as emotionally distant and self controlled. He broke through into mainstream consciousness with the "likes Math" comment which plays toward the Asian stereotype. (That's why it broke) Now hes balancing the math nerd profile with a few tears. "See, I feel your pain! I'm emotional just like you!" "I like Math" appeals to Libertarians, classic liberals, and white business (elon's endorsement), tears appeal to women and leftists.
