Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais skewered Hollywood during his opening monologue of the annual award show on Sunday, cracking jokes about virtue signaling celebrities, Apple sweatshops, and (their “friend”) Jeffrey Epstein.

“You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg,” Gervais told the A-list crowd at the top of the show.

“So, if you win, come up, accept your little award tonight, come up, accept it, thank your agent and your God, and **** off. No one cares about your views on politics or culture.”

Gervais saved his most stinging barb for Apple, which entered the entertainment business last year with the debut of Apple TV+. Apple CEO Tim Cook was in attendance during Sunday’s ceremony.

Gervais started by complimenting Apple’s The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, but soon switched into attack mode.

“A superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company the at runs sweatshops in China,” the actor-comedian said.

“If ISIS started a streaming service, you all would be calling your agents.”

Ricky Gervais also made a joke about Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged close ties to Hollywood power brokers. The joke started with a reference to Gervais’ Netflix series After Life, in which he plays a depressed man who avoids committing suicide..

“So in the end he obviously didn’t kill himself. Just like Jeffrey Epstein. Shut up, I know he’s your friend but I don’t care,” Gervais said....

Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais delivered his opening monologue on Sunday at the awards event, and called the room full of A-list stars, directors, and producers “perverts.”

“In this room are some of the most important TV and film executives in the world, people from every background,” said Gervais. “But they all have one thing in common: they’re all terrified of Ronan Farrow. He’s coming for you. He’s coming for you.”

“Look, talking to all you perverts,” he added, “it was a big year for pedophile movies. ‘Surviving R. Kelly.’ ‘Leaving Neverland.’ ‘The Two Popes.'”

During his opening presentation, Gervais also dragged members of Hollywood for being a “friend” of the deceased convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who the host added, “obviously didn’t kill himself.”

“Shut up, I know he’s your friend, but I don’t care,” interjected Gervais after the audience seemed to react with gasps and murmurs. “You have to make your own way here, your own plane, didn’t you?”

1) Gervais has a few golden globes at home. He's one of them. These are his friends.
2)The jokes were read off a teleprompter. In other words, they were vetted. Vetted by Dick Clark Productions and the HFPA, who hosts the the award shows, and NBC, who aired it.

Gervais was reacting to negative comments from journalists including Vanity Fair‘s Mark Harris, who wrote that making fun of hypocritical celebrities is a “right-wing talking point.”

Gervais retweeted a post by fellow comedian Jim Norton, who took the newspaper to task for misreading Gervais’s jokes.
