Throwing this language around creates stigma.

My comment comes from almost a decade of working in mental health services and seeing firsthand the effects of stigmatising language.

It is a culture that must be changed if we truly care about mental health. Which, as I am sure you are aware, is not an issue just 'for those with clear and genuine mental illness'. Mental health is a wider issue than that, which affects every single one of us at some point.

You never know if the person you are talking to is struggling with their mental health, and the language you use to attack them with can have a significant effect.

Well-intended for sure, but also well-informed as to what creates and maintains stigma in mental health.

Just because the world is tearing down statues, changing street names and banning nursery rhymes, doesn't make the impact of stigmatising language on mental health any less significant. Stigmatising mental health has been going on for hundreds of years. My comments have nothing to do with the censorship trend.
