Was in a Free-Speech Zone.
They were 'contained' to an area. If people are curious, then they can go see what it is.I remember my university days. (1970s)
Jesus Freak movement was strong on campus; as well as the India-garbed shaved-head with ponytail, dancing Krishnas attracting attention on corners of the busy student walkway-intersections (and airport lobbies).
Couldn't go to the Student Center's cafeteria without being accosted by someone wanting to "introduce you to My-Friend-Jesus"... some saying "I used to get high on drugs~ now I get high-on-The-Lord!"
Bottom-line was that they wouldn't leave me alone-there to study. (Good reason for Free Speech ZONES to be established. ... IF you want to, and when you have the 'time', THEN you can go and ask questions of these.)
That's when I started bringing a bagged lunch to eat in the study-lounge of the main building I took my classes and had my locker.
But! Since the group of friends I had in high school were involved in the Jesus Movement, a team of Jesus Freaks were probably specifically assigned to me.
Since these converts came at me with only a shallow understanding of memorized quotes from the Bible, and they used scripted (pamphlet) approaches designed to 'convince' me, I was able to 'turn their heads around' regarding scriptures.
Simply memorizing words from printed pages are still only head-level knowledge. It takes seasoning and Life Experience to know what you're doing with it. The faculty of your spiritual Understanding needs to have been 'opened'.
One of the problems with Christianity recently is that it's had some incredibly poor role models in public places of leadership.
When politics took over the pulpits, it toxified the church experience.. leading to an exodus.
Sometimes I want to balk at expressing christianity, because in modern mundane world, today's Society, through stories on the News, others ASSUME I must be a radicalized dogmatic into extremist right-wing thoughts and politics. These are associated with HATE-- Hate Crimes, Hurtful behaviors.
These have polluted the experience, and redefine christianity--- FAR from Christ and His Teachings.

I did eventually become a Born Again Spirit Filled Christian---
through a spontaneous direct-experience in a Dream that turned Lucid.

34 years ago, April 1987.
It was during a time I was furthest away from the practice of anything religious (or new age).
