Because I would be completely CONSUMED by rage 24/7/365. I just cry that this is where our world is at.

I really hope these articles are warping the the reality of this situation & the media is just trying to get everyone heated but it looks legit.

I didn't see a thread on this yet, but I just read about it this morning and started doing web searches on it.

So if I have 1 to many drinks, pass out, its cool for a group of guys to run a train on me? It is MY fault?! Males aren't to be blamed since they are unable to control their animalistic instincts in the presence of a vulnerable woman? Our society is devolving at warp speed.

I am all for people taking personal responsibility for their actions & choices but that goes both ways! The victim ALREADY PAID for the price for their choice to get inebriated! Being attacked is that, how can someone not understand that? They are obviously going to learn from the devastating result! Do none of these people have daughters? Sister? Wives? Neices? Did all of their mothers abandon them at birth? It sure seems that way....

No, that isn't true at all - there are some who believe that, but not nearly all of us.

Yeah I think I know the 1 you were talking about, Teasel. the marital rape law that got tossed out not too long ago in Minnesota also? Which is good that it did cause it was as f-ed as this one.

& I completely get that there are some nasty females out there who claim false rape just to get back at a guy out of spite cause she's mad at him for other reason & wants revenge. That isn't any better & they should face jail time as well.

I'm thinking there must be alot more to this story or the guy had connections. At least that is the only way my psyche is able to rationalize what I read. But this world is crazy so its believable.

Either way it passed unanimously to be a law now moving forward.

This situation is just messed up from all directions. Glad I don't live there.

This was a terrible ruling. There is a loophole in the Minnesota law regarding inebriation. The legal definition of “mentally incapacitated” only applies if a victim was given drugs or alcohol against their will — not if they consumed the substances voluntarily. The attorney for the rapist used that loophole to have his client's conviction overturned.

So they need to close that loophole so that perpetrators cannot use it to get off.

You may ask why this loophole was there in the first place. I am no legal expert, but there are a variety of reasons why the law will make a difference between voluntary inebriation vs involuntary inebriation. For instance, if a drunk person gets at the wheel of a vehicle and kills someone, this difference is going to matter in terms consequences for the driver. So the matter of inebriation is not as simple as we would like to think.

We have to make law that say that if you kill someone while voluntary inebriated, you are liable, but if someone robs you or rapes you while you are voluntary inebriated, that person is still liable because you cannot give consent.

In that particular woman's case, it should be more clear cut because according to testimony, she specifically said "no" when she woke up from the blackout and realized she was being raped. The perpetrator should have stopped whether she was drunk or not. So even that loophole is not a good reason why the guy got off.

Well, she wasn't even conscious, so he shouldn't have done anything at all.

... You would think...

And she had a "friend" with her. what was the friend doing during that time when she was being raped? Engaging in consensual sex with the other guy? The whole situation seems murky...

Veronica...
THOSE WORDS are EXACTLY what my grandmother and mother said to me in the 1960's.

"Men can't HELP themselves." Their animal urges trump self-control. They can't be expected to CONTROL their 'thing'!

By the way, you're not alone about 'watching the news'? It's at the point sometimes where stories makes me physically SICK!! Almost want to puke.
That JimCrow move by Georgia !!!!! *jawdrop*

YES. IT IS devolving.
Some incredible 'damage' is being done, as fast and as stealthily-conniving as they can manage it.
