I don’t know anyone like you described. I know several people who voted for Trump who got the vaccine as soon as they could, some even driving over an hour to get it. To me, it is not really a political issue.

When people insist that Trump be given credit for getting the vaccine developed in “warp speed,” I think it’s just giving credit where credit is due. I guess there are people who think Trump should be credited for his actual accomplishments, but don’t want the vaccine yet, or ever. I don’t think these things contradict each other.

Anyway, heath goes beyond politics and the reason I posted is because I wanted to point out the shifting standards for what we consider normal. Not too long ago, trying to force or shame someone into taking a medication that had not yet received full FDA approval would not have seemed OK. Look at how quickly our standards change.

By the way, Teasel, I agree with you on your point about not trusting the FDA. But it’s the standard that we have in this country and it’s something that has traditionally been respected. If someone doesn’t trust the FDA, I would think they trust the pharmaceutical companies even less (considering they are a major reason why we can’t trust the FDA to begin with). So I think if someone is skeptical of the FDA they are probably at least a bit wary of these vaccines too.

And, you’re right, almost all of the pharmaceutical drugs have nasty side effects. Thank goodness we have regulations that require the manufacturers to disclose the side effects otherwise all we would hear is every new drug is a wonder drug with no side effects whatsoever.
