http://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/05/road-political-violence/618929/ The Republican Party must counteract lies rather than indulge them. With Ted Cruz praising Russian armed forces, versus our own today, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. IP: Logged |

Cheney told CNN that several Republican members of Congress had voted against impeaching Trump out of fear. “If you look at the vote to impeach, for example, there were members who told me that they were afraid for their own security—afraid, in some instances, for their lives,” she said. “And that tells you something about where we are as a country, that members of Congress aren’t able to cast votes, or feel that they can’t, because of their own security.”Georgia Republicans who in the aftermath of the 2020 election would not go along with Trump’s false claims about election fraud in that state faced death threats, intimidation, and harassment, according to Gabriel Sterling, a Republican official in the Georgia secretary of state’s office. The home of Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, also a Republican, was targeted too. This week I talked with a Republican election official in Arizona, Stephen Richer, who has spoken out against what he refers to as Trump’s “unhinged” claims about election fraud in Maricopa County. (Richer says Trump’s claims are “as readily falsifiable as 2+2=5.”) He told me he has received death threats and has been forced to take measures to protect his and his family’s safety. And these examples are hardly unusual. IP: Logged |

The mindset that this gives rise to in MAGA world is something like this: We are victims of a monstrous injustice. Our revered leader, Donald Trump, was removed from office by illegitimate means. It was done by those who are determined to destroy us, and to destroy our country; they cheated their way to power. Nothing like this has ever happened before in American history, and we must employ every available weapon at our disposal to undo this historic abuse of power, this coordinated assault on our rights. If others won’t protect us, we will take matters into our own hands. We would prefer it not to be violent, but sometimes violence is a necessary recourse, and we are in uncharted territory. We will do what we must. After all, we are victims of “THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY.” IP: Logged |

Interesting post. Perhaps if The Atlantic and the other legacy media took the time to really research what happened during the elections instead of automatically labelling any questioning of the results as "baseless", the people they are talking about wouldn't feel the way they do. It's not Trump fault. All the legacy media has to do is put a good faith effort into investigating what happened. People need to be heard. They need to know that their concerns will be addressed. When you don't do that, and you add censorship to it, you create an environment that is favorable to violence. I bet there will be a series of article like this on mainstream media, trying to lay down the ground for forcibly disarming the population, to "prevent violence". Waste of time. I don't own any gun, but if I did, after what the democrats did last year and are doing in 2021, the constant encroaching on personal freedom and rights, I would NEVER give up my gun. IP: Logged | |
