This was no surprise, given where it took place and how easily people on a jury are duped about tax matters. It will be appealed. The individual who was behind the perks did say that President Trump knew nothing about the "fraud," which I argue was not fraud at all, but he was smart to take a 5-month plea deal.

This isn't justice. It was a kangaroo court. Fringe benefits are generally taxable to recipients as income AND able to be written off to the corporation; however, there are exceptions and ways to structure perks so that they are not. The IRS has audited President Trump and his business entities for years and found nothing wrong. Aggressive tax "avoidance" isn't "fraud." President Trump can easily pay the fine, but it's just the point of it. It can affect the organization from transacting business due to the negative reputation from ruling.
