Speaker Kevin McCarthy:

quote:
Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump.

I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions.

Mike Davis:

quote:
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, a Soros-funded Democrat, is indicting Trump for the non-crime of settling a nuisance civil matter.

Jonathan Turley:

'This is a flawed case': Legal expert pours cold water on NY DA's rumored plan to indict Trump as he explains why prosecution would likely fail

Senator Josh Hawley:

quote:
The Democrats used the FBI against parents, they used the FBI against Catholics, they used Big Tech against vaccine critics & anyone who questioned them. Now they want to arrest Trump, their leading political opponent. They are the banana republic party

Jimmy Dore:

If this happens two things will happen:

1. It will become clear that the legal system is not used to keep us safe & prosecute criminals but is a tool of the oligarchy to punish & control their enemies at their discretion.

2. Trump will win in a landslide.

It isn't an abuse of power. I can't believe, out of everything that he's done, that this is what's getting him arrested. There is so much more.

Susan Necheles, a lawyer for Trump, said his remark about the timing of his arrest was gleaned from media reports on Friday about local and federal law enforcement players expecting to convene early next week to discuss security and logistics related to Trump’s expected indictment.

“Since this is a political prosecution, the District Attorney’s office has engaged in a practice of leaking everything to the press, rather than communication with President Trump’s attorneys as would be done in a normal case,” Necheles said in a statement.

Ridiculous in the extreme.

For the sake of argument only:
Let's say Trump paid off Stormy Danials, a prostitute who says she had sex with Trump.

That's no crime. If true....for the sake of argument only, it might be embarrassing

If Trump paid off Stormy Danials with campaign finance money, that might be a crime.

But records show Trump's attorney, Cohen paid off Stormy Daniels with his own personal funds and Trump reimbursed Cohen with his (Trumps) own personal funds.

No crime, which equals no indictment and no prosecution....except in a democrat shiiite hole banana republic.

Btw, Trump denies he ever had sex with Stormy Daniels.....and her attorney, who pushed this whole bit of nonsense, is doing time in prison for a variety of charges and convictions

Not ridiculous, and why can't you admit that he slept with her? That he cheated on his wives??? All of them.

The man is not the most pure thing to walk this earth. The cheating isn't nearly the worst of it, but I don't know why I bother expecting anything else out of you.

I am not following this story very closely so I don't really know all the details, therefore take what I say with a grain of salt.

It looks like yet another attempt in the strategy to take Trump down by "any means necessary", using tax payer's money, so this strategy can go on and on, with apparently no end in sight since it costs the perpetrators NOTHING to go after Trump.

Even if this latest attempt is not successful in indicting/arresting/convicting Trump, it is still valuable to them because it still means Trump has to spend a fortune on a legal team to defend himself. The long term strategic goal is to bankrupt Trump through a multitude of legal challenges.

Bill Clinton paid Paula Jones 850,000. Also, not a crime, and not indicted.

Ridiculous!!
Trump denies he slept with Stormy Daniels.
I don't know since I wasn't there.
More importantly, since you're making the allegation, you don't know either because you weren't there.

It is irrelevant about whether President Trump slept with her or not. But I don’t hear you making these comments about Clinton, who has admitted to his affairs. Hypocrisy much? Yes, with you, very much—all the time, in fact.

McCarthy calls for House investigations as Republicans slam potential Trump indictment

A slew of Republican allies took to Twitter to express their outrage about Trump’s prediction that he would be arrested next week.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas):

quote:
"an indictment of the former president would be “politically-motivated” — a symptom of what Roy called a “politicized ‘justice’ system that will be (is being) weaponized against ALL Americans.”

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio):

quote:
“We simply don’t have a real country if justice depends on politics,” maintaining that a Trump indictment would not cause him to reconsider his endorsement of the former president in 2024.

Former Vice President Mike Pence:

quote:
“This is what the Manhattan DA says is their top priority,” Pence told conservative media outlet Breitbart. “It reeks of the kind of political prosecution that that we endured back in the days of the Russia hoax and the whole impeachment over a phone call.”

Vivek Ramaswamy, Republican presidential candidate in 2024 said a Trump indictment

quote:
“would be a national disaster,” and that it is “un-American for the ruling party to use police power to arrest its political rivals,” before calling on the Manhattan DA to “reconsider this action and to put aside partisan politics in service of preserving our Constitutional republic.”

Bragg on the defensive

quote:
Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg said in an email to staff that his office will not tolerate attempts to intimidate our office or threaten the rule of law in New York.

Only Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is allowed to "threaten the rule of law in New York."

Indicting Trump Would Be Targeted Injustice

quote:
All decent people, whether politically opposed to Mr. Trump (as I am) or supportive of his candidacy, should be concerned about this weaponizing of the prosecutor’s office for the political purpose of preventing a potential candidate from running for office.

A Trump indictment in New York now remains on hold until possibly two more grand jury witnesses testify.

One witness is Rudy Giuliani lawyer Robert Costello, ex-attorney for key prosecution witness Michael Cohen.

Cohen himself may then be called by the prosecution to rebut Costello, Cohen told Insider.

There’s a huge difference between political talk and actual weaponization. Did President Trump actually pursue it? No.
