As Hurricane Helene careened toward Florida's Panhandle, numerous Republicans voted against extending funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Last week, Congress approved $20 billion for FEMA's disaster relief fund as part of a stopgap spending bill to fund the government through December 20. But the measure left out billions of dollars in requested supplemental disaster funding. The Senate approved the measure by a 78-18 vote on September 25 after it passed the House in a 341-82 vote. Republicans supplied the no votes in both chambers. Some of the Republicans who voted against the bill represent states that have been hard hit by Helene, including Florida Representative Matt Gaetz. Rep. Matt Gaetz sent a letter to Mayorkas: quote:

My office has been in contact with whistleblowers in numerous emergency-management functions at the federal, state, and local levels, and they all point to the same critical mismanagement issues. FEMA has wasted taxpayer funds, misappropriated funds, and left other federal, state, and local responders without deployment orders on the ground. As reported and further confirmed by my office, hundreds, if not thousands of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA. We have confirmed FEMA employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels. FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency. It is also public that NGOs have purchased airline tickets for migrants through the use of FEMA funds. The aftermath of Hurricane Helene is a major disaster, and your waste and unpreparedness are leaving Americans in distress—unable to access food, water, or medicine—and expecting help, with none coming. Please provide answers to the following questions to my office by October 11, 2024: (1) What policies and regulations of the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA prevent emergency funds from being wasted on illegal immigrants, including what conditions are placed on grantees of the agency?; and (2) Of FEMA's total budget for FY 2024, what portion of funds can be guaranteed to have been spent solely on American citizens, and what portion of funds was or may have been spent on noncitizens?; and (3) In FY 2024, what portion of funds in the Disaster Relief Fund has been spent on non-disaster-relief programs, such as providing services to illegal aliens or providing routine training to FEMA employees

So, human beings aren’t allowed to receive any kind of help, if they aren’t a citizen? None at all. How is that pro-life? And as I’ve said before: undocumented immigrants have paid billions in taxes. Are they not supposed to benefit from their own taxes they’ve given to the government? IP: Logged |

I’m watching a movie, but just saw Brian Stelter counteracting lies on CNN. so it was $750 on the first day. That’s what you’ve been freaking out about? A lot more money is coming. This $750 was just the beginning. God damn. I think that’s a new low when it comes to conspiracy theories. I have a long-time older friend, nineteen years, who has been spreading this all over the place. And I had a link, but it’s Facebook, a public post from a politician who also tagged others. Telling the truth about the response, and asking people to please stop spreading the lies, and to please stop calling their offices about them, because it’s cutting into them handling the emergency. These immigrants haven’t paid a dime in taxes. And they are given free plane rides to anywhere they want to go in the country, are put up in luxury hotels (which they trash), and given a stipend (which they use to buy booze), while veteran is sleep on the streets in front of the same hotels. Laura loomer is telling people to not comply with FEMA. why? And why do conservatives keep trying to hurt peoole? It’s bad enough that they’re hurting immigrants with this, and putting their lives in more danger, but they would rather spread lies, than see people get help.
