It only took two votes (three Republicans voted against Johnson on the first vote, and a second vote was made quickly thereafter in a dramatic reversal, but it was still the first ballot). Massie was a hard no. Johnson isn't ideal, but no one else wants the job, President Trump gave his endorsement of Johnson, and we need President Trump's busy agenda to start immediately on day one. Just as a side note, Pelosi often only got 218 votes.
