The tariff war must have hit a nerve, because the Chinese are behaving very uncharacteristically. They are now outing the Western luxury brands that were making their products in Chinese factory and passing them off as being made in France and Italy.

Those $30,000 luxury bags owners must feel a little ridiculous now....

Culturally, they are a very discreet people, so they must really be unnerved by the tariff war, if they are resorting to outing those luxury brands. What is the goal?

They apparently want the luxury devotees to buy their goods directly from them, instead of buying them through those luxury houses. And it does sound like a good deal? Hey, those $30,000 luxury bags, you can now buy them at a fraction of the cost from us!

However, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot because they are not understanding what drives the luxury buyer. What drives the luxury buyer, imo? It is NOT quality as they claim, well, quality is 1 component, but also the experience of owning something that few people can afford. And once everybody and their mamas can afford those really Made in China bags, these bags are going to lose their cachet and what made them valuable to the aficionadoes.
