Carney wins Canada's election, riding Canadian fury at Trump to victory http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2025/04/28/mark-carney-wins-canada-election/83327628007/ Is trump going to sue Canada, too?

Mark Carney won the Canadian election to continue his term as prime minister, Canadian and U.S. news outlets reported late Monday night, closing his victory after President Donald Trump's aggressive rhetoric and tariffs lifted the ruling Liberal Party to a remarkable political comeback. Both CBC in Canada and the Associated Press projected Carney as the winner. Carney's win represented a repudiation of Trump's volley of threats to annex Canada and make it the "51st state." That rhetoric – along with punishing tariffs on Canadian goods – has sparked an unprecedented wave of Canadian nationalism and overturned years of stability between the two neighbors. Carney, a central banker with little formal government experience, called a snap election late last month as the liberal party surged in polls to close a more-than-20-point deficit since the beginning of 2025.

The fundamental issue is there's very much a cultural difference and misunderstanding. When "Dougie" Doug Ford are recently elected premier, he's like a governor, got tough and threated to cut electricity to several US states in exchange for a direct meeting. Ford comes back from his meeting, softens up on his threat and at the same time Trump complements him for being a tough guy. Dougie explains just to Ontarians that the issue is under the American perspective they see it as a complement that Canada becomes a 51st state. Realistically, there's major cultural and value systems that the average American just doesn't understand. That and he further explains, it's not just Canada, the main goal is to tariffs all countries because the US wants to reengineer global trade and were not as hit hard as other countries. We hear all the news that goes down in the US and barely anyone in the US reads, or above all else has reliable news of things that happen up here. If the average American is basing their opinion and confident about it, on the very little news or even unreliable news they hear. Then people from outside of the US know more of what's going on in the US vs what they know about them, the US is in serious trouble. You don't think in China, which is the greatest threat to America knows more about the average American vs the average American knows about the average Chinese? The 51st state thing was just a troll. Dems are just too easy. Gullible much? It did get rid of Trudeau, so that’s a win. IP: Logged |

Oops, I didn't see your post before I posted mine. But it's indeed a vote against Trump. The U.S. is pushing away important allies. When trust disappears between countries, especially important trade and military partners, it's going to have a negative impact on the economy. This is also going to increase the risk of conflict. But somehow it seems premeditated. Is Trump purposely isolating the U.S. because they want to start a war? If you want to install a dictator this is definitely the road map. IP: Logged |

Trolling your most important ally? What is this, high school? And it's not a win if the person who says they will move away from the U.S. and find more reliable allies, wins the election. Trump has done serious damage to diplomatic ties with Canada. IP: Logged |

Most important ally? Is that why Canada has been ripping us off to the tune of billions? Is that how allies should be treated? Why are you only opposed to American tariffs, but the rest of the world can charge us insane amounts? Why are tariffs okay for them? So, they will continue to be our friends as long as we let them rip us off? Fair trade is exactly that. What exactly do they offer us? Maple syrup and lumber? Do they help us in any way militarily? It is a one-sided relationship. Stop ripping us tf off!IP: Logged |

Canada isn't ripping you off, that's propaganda. The same for these so called "reciprocal" tariffs, the calculations from the White House are complete BS. No actual economist supports that formula. If you want to improve the trade balance, you need to invest in your country. Especially in education. You're not going to outcompete China on production of goods. Pretending robots are going to do all the production while there is no actual factory that can do that right now, or knowledge how to make these products, is going to get the U.S. in a lot of trouble. The rest of the world does not need the U.S. to function. It will hurt, but new alliances will be built. Canada and Europe are already seeking more cooperation. China, Japan and South Korea are working together now. Trump's policies only create incentives for other countries to become more independent of the U.S. The U.S. is making itself obsolete. You are saying that these countries are not charging us large tariffs? The original formula may have been off. But t it’s fact that there are disproportionate tariffs are not. You have just lost all credibility. For example, we are charged 110 percent by India on American cars. That locks us out of their car market. How difficult is that to understand?IP: Logged |

Maybe Trump can rethink his trolling tactic, and think of himself more as Commander-in-Chief instead of Comedian-in-Chief..? You can troll a person, but not an entire country. The 51st state trolling was completely unnecessary and has backfired! I sincerely hope he reflects on that. IP: Logged |

He was more so trolling Trudeau. In my view, it worked in two ways. 1. He got rid of Trudeau, who was a true dictator. Remember how he froze bank accounts of protesting truckers abc had them dragged out of their trucks? 2. He helped Canada to step up and support themselves, getting off the American teat. He joking said that if we are going to pay for them through tariffs sh SC their national defense, they might as well became a part of America. Unorthodox tactics, but they worked. IP: Logged |

He would have been fine just trolling Trudeau because Trudeau's popularity was already low and Canadians didn't care for him. But with the 51st state comments, he was trolling the entire country, which fed TDS, and it sunk Polievre's party. It became clearly evident in the polls and I expected Carney to win. Yes, Canadians voted against Trump, and-narrowly- elected a World Economic Forum (WEF) member, so they will be getting more of the same things they have come to hate under Trudeau. IP: Logged |

Well, that’s on them. It could be good for them and teach them about freedom. They better get used to eating bugs while their leader eats the finest steaks. Thankfully, we will never elect such leaders here. IP: Logged |
