In 1957, after the ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, the pro-segregationist Governor sent in the National Guard to Little Rock in order to prevent nine Black students from entering their high school. President Eisenhower federalized those troops, and they instantly turned around and walked the nine Black students into the school. Did Eisenhower militarize those troops? Or did he simply use them to enforce the law? Why is the situation today any different? It isn't. IP: Logged |
