A little early, but many people celebrate today. Are you cooking out? IP: Logged |

No Cookout! I have not particularly celebrated Columbus Day, neither have I celebrated Indigenous People day. Most holidays, I normally just enjoyed having a day off! The only non religious holidays I really celebrate are: New Year! Memorial Day! 4th of July Independence Day! ThanksGiving! But because Columbus Day has been officially returned to its original meaning, I celebrate it this time! IP: Logged |

Same! On all counts! But I am choosing to celebrate this year (tomorrow). It's the least I can do, since such an effort was made to return the correct name to the holiday.

Hey thriends! Here’s your yearly reminder that Spain was so horrified by what Christopher Colombus did, they ordered him back to Spain to face trial, stripped him of his title and power, and tossed his ass into prison. Even the government responsible for an ethnic cleanse thought he was a horrific piece of **** . Why are we celebrating this? http://www.threads.com/@the_gaming_anthropologist/post/DPtlibZDX6Y IP: Logged |

As always, you miss the entire point of this holiday. We are celebrating Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas! We are celebrating the pioneering spirit of a man who against all odds, set out to find India, got lost, and ended up instead in The Americas. Which led to the bridging of the gap between the old and the new world. That was a historical moment, actually a pivotal moment in world's history. Yes, many bad things happened, especially to indigenous people, but ALL OF US HERE IN THE US - INCLUDING YOU TEASEL - ARE HERE BECAUSE THIS PARTICULAR MAN SET OUT AGAINST ALL ODDS TO FIND THIS PARTICULAR PLACE. Again, you want a holiday that celebrates Indigenous People, why don't you work instead with the system to have a NEW holiday declared? IP: Logged |
