Mike Johnson said they have a plan but wouldn't share it yet. I'm hoping that one of the main ideas is that people can shop across state lines because that competition will drive the costs down. IP: Logged |

With all due respect to Mr. Johnson, it is a big cagey to say you have a plan but you won't share it yet. What have they been doing, secret meetings on the plan??Imo, if they are going to let Obamacare die, they need to actively start talking about what they are going to replace it with! Otherwise, it fuels the sentiment that the GOP just does't care, or that it can only critizise Obamacare, but is not able to offer a solid replacement. IP: Logged |

To be honest, my hopes are not high. Obamacare started with good intentions, and degenerated into something else, a mixed bag with positives and many negatives. I don't believe any administration can put together a healthcare system that is perfect or near perfect for the size of this country and the variety of people and lifestyles we have. We are going to get another mixed bag. Pragmatism would dictate that we don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The GOP should take what was good about Obamacare and keep it, and discard what was not good, and/or improve on it with other solutions. IP: Logged |

I agree with you on almost all counts. I’m pretty sure they plan on keeping the provisions for children (college aged for those who attend secondary education) and pre-existing conditions. The ACA never fulfilled its primary mission of making healthcare affordable. This year, premiums would go up 36% even without the shutdown. Maybe that was the idea—to deflect with the shutdown and blame Republicans for that increase. The subsidies were intended just for COVID. It was a bandaid, not a solution. It is highly sus not to tell us what the GOP’s plan entails. IP: Logged |

"The subsidies were intended just for COVID."Unfortunately, this is typical of what happens in our society. Once you give out something, even if you say it's temporary, people expect it to last and last and they do not prepare for when it will end, and get very upset when it ends. Why? Because these 'temporary" things become part of the entitlements... IP: Logged |
