The article did not say what the gift was, so it was a waste of time going through it. Anyway, regarding this war, it was a gamble to undertake it at this particular time, though I understand the reasoning behind it. Will the gamble pay off? If Trump can wrap up the conflict within a month or two at the most while keeping American casualties low, he could legitimately call it a success, rebuild the economy and the gamble would have paid off. If the war drags on longer than that, then its effects on the economy will be even steeper, and it will be an albatross on Trump and the republicans and will not bode well for the midterms. The news is that there was a gift. But no one is telling what it was. Hopefully, we will see the end to this engagement soon. The deadline was just extended until Monday April 6 at 8:00 pm EST for Iran to open up the Strait of Hamuz or to face bombing of its energy plants. Iran asked for 7 days, and Trump gave them 10 days. I’m not sure anything can save the mid-terms for the Republicans. History shows it.IP: Logged |

UPDATE: President Trump just announced what the gift was. It’s 8 tanker ships full of oil. They arrive tomorrow. They added 2 additional tanker ships for a total of 10.IP: Logged |

And, may I ask you, what do you mean by " I’m not sure anything can save the mid-terms for the Republicans. History shows it."?IP: Logged |

The opposing party of the President almost always wins the mid-terms. I think there have only been two exceptions.IP: Logged |

I am not sure why I have never been aware of that as a rule.In any case, the Trump trajectory has been unlike anything we have ever seen, so I will not automatically assume that the midterms this year will go to the opposite party just based on that rule alone. However, perhaps this rule is the motivation for President Trump doing everything he can before the midterms to advance his agenda, as opposed to waiting, if he truly feels he will be a lame president after that.
