Think it works in any way? Like hypnosis?

I don't know what I think, I don't think it can make you do anything. Not sure about the influetntial aspect though.

What yall think?

I think the intention and vibration of the lyrics and the musicians transfers to the listener, for sure. That's for any genre of music.

Subliminal messages are directly given to your subconcious mind. Your subconcious mind is your auto pilot. It does exactly what it is programmed to do, it can do harm or good and is a big reason why addictions are so difficult to unlearn because essentially you are battling your subconcious Its not easy to reprogram but is very possible to do. The Answer by John Assaraf is a good book about subconcious programming, this is how I learned to make my vision board.

How you feeling TxGirl?

I'm fine, mad at my guy, he is in doghouse for today Otherwise, just waiting for my lil guy to come home from dads later tonight. My girlfriend was driving to Philly early this morning and I was gonna go with her but she's not coming back until 10pm I'm making her bring me a Philly cheesesteak and Philly cheesecake (although not sure if they are famous for cheesecake lol)
So I'm just home and bored
Whats up with sleep, baby? When I cant sleep I drink serenity which is the polar opposite of red bull but I wouldnt suggest you drink it because I dont think its very healthy. What about some chamomile tea and a nice soak in bath or some nice soothing music?

I'm sorry you didn't get to go but Philly Cheese steak is AMAZING! And I love cheesecake as well lol.

I just got my sleep off track and my body gets angry with me and lashes out- and doesn't let me sleep at all to make me understand I guess? lol

Not much I can do now, I don't like sleeping my day away, I'll have my power nap later! lol It's sunday so yay cleaning and laundry!

First, most stories you hear of subliminal messages in music are just urban legends created by people who live to bear false witness. And from those songs I listened to it didn't impress me as being true. If those songs really said that backwards then the lyrics (which can be typically read like in the case of the Jonas Brothers) would be gobbledygook forwards.

But suppose for a moment that it's all true: if so, it fails to covert their audiences to satanism.

And the kids I know are more influenced by the evangelical background of the JoBros (Jonas Brothers) and their charitable causes than any supposed subliminals, and ever since Miley decided she "can't be tamed" (and before) many former fans denounced her as a **** . Clearly, IF Disney was trying to corrupt the youth into satanism & sex, they have failed.

And as for Disney YT clip, no, I don't believe Disney is engaged in a conspiracy to corrupt the youth. However that marriage scene in The Little Mermaid may have been a deliberate joke (and one that an animator can be fired for, as has happened at least once before). Some of it, OTOH, is mere imagination, IMO. And I'm not the least bit horrified by it, nor do I think it would adversely affect kids in any way, not even when there's actually something there.

ETA: I looked up the Lion King scene (which I think is more power of suggestion than actual) on snopes and found this:

ETA2: and the story behind the Little Mermaid marriage scene: http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/minister.asp

But as for actual subliminals (as opposed to backward lyrics which I don't count), I believe it can have an effect, though its power seems overrated to me. I understand that the Exorcist is a lot scarier to Christians because the movie has a subliminal of a devil leaping at the viewer in it, but it doesn't scare nonbelievers. That strongly suggests mild influence to me as opposed to any form of actual control.

I've heard--but don't know--that flashing subliminals of popcorn in a film can cause more people to get popcorn than normally would. I'd want to see several studies confirming that, though, not just one.

But much more than subliminal messages is repetition. Subliminal seems very weak compared to this (though I suppose repetitious subliminals might have an affect, too).

In any case, I believe the strongest influence by far in a child's life is parental example, and most crusades against video games, Disney, music, etc, are just a way some parents deal with their own sense of guilt, insecurities, and/or failure.

Actually, that popcorn story either was a bad study or just a rumor--not sure which, but it couldn't be replicated. We went over it in a psychology class. My teacher was the Skeptical Inquirer poster child.

they work. at least the multibillionare corporations seem to think so, and they got that way for selling crap. there is a subliminal advertising technique called "HELL SELL". in these ads they add subliminal pictures of demon faces and other "evil" imagery that can get quite complex, along with subliminal sex and imagery that denotes hopelessness, etc.

your subconscious mind takes in subliminals as readily as your conscious mind takes in the obvious. the reason this hell sell technique is so widely used is because it works by taking advantage of the inherent good nature most human beings possess. your brain tries to atone for the evil imagery by buying the product that says (on a conscious level) something like, "BUY THIS! IT'S LIKE FLOWERS IN THE SUNSHINE AND IS SO GOOD!" the conflicting imagery creates a tension, an impulse to buy.

this technique is ALL OVER THE PLACE. in fact, it's so outrageously common that ever since i was a kid i thought i was evil and deranged because i saw devil heads and dicks in EVERYTHING...everything. it wasn't until i learned of this diabolical technique that i realized i was not evil and deranged, i could see subliminals, haha! what a relief...

i see them as easy as i see anything apparent which i can gloss over with ease and not see at all, so SOMETIMES i see them more than the obvious , which is weird. i think it might have something to do with having asperger's since we are so sensitive to stimuli, who knows. i do know that you can be taught to see them, however, auditory subliminals are different in most cases. you cannot learn to hear things that are below or above hearing range (generally speaking). if you are sensitive to things though, you will certainly "feel" something fishy.
