Yup it's common in the Arab kingdom. Though the research I came across suggested they don't usually have that many problems with genetic disorders. The same research made a point of saying that as long as there were no bad recessive genes or whatever then there wouldn't be any problems.

Interbreeding only causes health problems if there are already genetic markers present. It's not a foregone conclusion that incest would cause any health issues.

Yeah I read about the higher instances of deafness, I'll see if I can find the link to the research again.

astrologicalman--i appreciate the fact that you keep open communication going on this site. i think if it weren't for you and a few like you, we would all soon fall prey to the new-agey 'everything should always be pretty' attitude and our cheap and often not heartfelt ideas of 'love' towards each other. personally i feel that honest and open communication, where people simply put judgment off to the side for a bit, is the highest expression of anything real. And, correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't feel like you present these often 'taboo' subjects just to anger people. i think i see your mind

I think most people feel incest is wrong because most incest happens between a trusted adult and a defenseless CHILD.

Personal feelings of grossness aside, I don't care what two consenting adults do or who they do it with.

@Saraunthesky

marraige between cousins is quite normal in our culture and is not considered incest, that, like manyyyy other traditions, does not make it right!
i guess it depends on the relationship you build with your cousins, i mean if you are complete strangers that meet later in life and are attracted to each other than i guess it wont be too gross.. but if you, like the majority of families, have litrally grew up with your cousins and shared close familial experiances then it just isnt right to become sexually attracted to them.. yuk

..i remember when we were like 5 or something i used to stand guard on the bathroom door when my cous was doin his business so as to make sure no cockroaches went in he was afraid of everything that casts a shadow lol

ummm...YES incest is wrong!!

I dont care how you look at it or try to rationalize...it is WRONG!

Many of my family members (myself and my children included) were molested. It seriously screwed up to look at a child sexually. Children are innocent and trust adults to care for them, not treat them as a piece of meat for their own twisted pleasures.

My father has spent the past 30 yrs in prison and will probably die there for his choices.

sorry, this just hit a nerve with me...

but what if the child understands what sex is and has an attraction to the parent afterwards? With the internet and television and all that, most kids *learn* at very young ages what *sex is about*

I am not promoting sex with kids at all by the way, anyone who knows me, knows that I roll with women but I must ask these type of questions to better understand us all.

As someone who was a victim of incest as a 9 year old child, I find the idea that the child would WANT a sexual relationship with their father / mother / uncle / aunt (or any other adult..) absolutely repugnant.

This is a disgusting thread.

ok AM think about this.

Children do not get sexually excited I don't care what they see.
They get confused and scared.

Can you imagine what they feel like when a beloved parent or relative crosses those lines? It is rape, number one they are not old enough to come anywhere close to understanding the implication of sex/RAPE

If they can't depend on the parent to protect them, THEN WHO CAN THEY TURN TO?

This is beyond Taboo
this is in bad taste
and it leaves the child with a lifetime of problems.

I agree, Lala. Freedom of expression (at least here in Lindaland) must have limits. This string clearly was just to stir up contention.
