I heard the other day, he died of a drug overdose & was lying undiscovered for some time.

I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

Starfox, there's nothing you could've done to save him, u know? You can influence someone but you cannot live his life for him. It was his decision, his actions, his free will. You have to forgive yourself and him.

The same thing happened to me many years ago. Mine died of a heroin overdose and on my birthday too. He disappeared and I hadnt spoken to him for awhile.

The best thing you can do for your friend is send him loving thoughts and prayers. The crossed over person does in fact hear them and it actually helps them in the afterlife, it is said.

I was reminded of this quote - and have read many similar things in my learning about the afterlife:

"Prayers for the dead are on the same footing as gifts for the living. The angel goes in to the dead with a tray of light, bearing a cloth of light, and says, "This is a gift for you from your brother so-and-so." And he delights in it just as a living person rejoices in a gift."

Of course you will grieve, but also be sure to remember the person in a good light, in happier times and wish peace for them and send your love as a gift to your friend. He will feel it and it will help him.
