I wouldn't seek to, but presumably I would for the right person. It's just hard for me to imagine being in the right circumstances for that to happen (I'm talking someone in their 60s-70s) unless the person has an enhanced lifespan (like say a vampire ).

But probably not as friendship is enough--and very special--to me. However, if I didn't value friendship as I do and couldn't get close to someone without also getting intimate (that is if I thought I was more like most people) then yeah, because I can form close attachments to people of all ages, and most people can't get close to someone without also at least feeling a desire for physical intimacy (at least that's my observation, and the fact that love songs come a dime a dozen while songs praising someone for being a true friend are rare in the extreme only verifies my observation to me). So if I were wired like most people in this one regard then I'd say it's not out of the question.

ETA: Btw, I'm not entirely clear on what you're asking. I assumed you meant your (*) grandfather who was also your best friend, but saying they both live far away makes me think that you're saying your grandfather and best friend BOTH have the same birthday and now there's a 3rd person you're considering dating with the same birthday yet again. That would be amazing and if that happened to me I'd definitely look into the astrological side of that and how it interacted with my chart with a fascination bordering on obsession.

(*I say "you/your" as it's easiest, though I realize the question can be about someone else or even entirely hypothetical.)

Age depends ALOT on this question, culture, etc.

I will be 50 soon and my grandpa 90, so heavens no!

However in the younger folks and in some cultures where they marry early and are grandparents in their 20's to 30's, maybe?

As to dating......
Except for 18 and over,
no age limits here.
It depends on the person,
never the age.
