Outrage as Egypt plans 'farewell intercourse law' so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives up to six hours after their death

Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives - for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of
women's rights of getting education and employment.

The subject of a husband having sex with his dead wife arose in May 2011 when Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marriage remains valid even after death.
He also said that women have the right to have sex with her dead husband, alarabiya.net reported.

This is so hard to believe, wouldn't that be considered "defiling a corpse" ?
and how does that fit in with Muslim Beliefs?

I don't even have words.

Necrophilia is just plain wrong and disgusting. There is NO way to defend that. It's just sick.

And come on, wouldn't it be a health hazard, if nothing else?

And why would you WANT a dead partner anyway?!

I need cute fluffy animal pictures STAT.

People better watch that Arab Spring as the root of it is this type of thing. Horrible things are happening in the world.

Of course it would be defiling a corpse and Islam prohibits defiling.

I think the world is having a knee jerk reaction to this without all the facts known. Or put another way, I pray it is as such and is baseless.

I think this is also a question we should be asking

quote:
This is very serious. Could the panel that will draft the Egyptian constitution possibly discuss such issues? Did Abdul Samea see by his own eyes the text of the message sent by Talawi to Katatni? This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?”

It feels to me this is along the lines of actually what is going on.

quote:
Although reported in local media, there are some suggestions from within Egypt that the plans do not exist and were merely seeded by journalists loyal to ousted President Hosni Mubarak

Hopefully it is internet/political gossip and has no merit.

I can't get into it but people should study what the Muslim Brotherhood is all about. People need to know as Obama is giving US dollars to them. I have to excuse myself from this discussion as I cannot stay cool in the face of it.

I'm sorry but how are women supposed to have sex with their dead husband? It wouldn't even go in.
Anyway with men having sex with their dead wives is pretty disgusting too. Yuck!

This doesn't have a shot in hell of being true as Islam has strict rules/laws against violating corpses. They have to bury the body the same day for crying out loud! In fact it is custom to bury the body soon after it has been washed. Islamic laws state that once the woman has died she is no longer her husband's. Men are not allowed anywhere near the woman's body, especially when the body is being cleaned.

Do not trust the daily mail as a news source. It is a gossip rag masquerading as a viable newspaper. If the AP isn't validating the "news" then it has not been proven to be true. Also, since the Arab Spring you have to question who could possibly have something to gain by spreading such horrendous rumours about the Muslim Brotherhood. It couldn't possibly be Mubarak supporters, could it? Afterall, the privileged life that they were used to was destroyed, was it not?

Deliah, the Huffington Post carried the article as well.

My post above reflects my opinion on the "validity" of the story

quote:
This doesn't have a shot in hell of being true as Islam has strict rules/laws against violating corpses. They have to bury the body the same day for crying out loud! In fact it is custom to bury the body soon after it has been washed. Islamic laws state that once the woman has died she is no longer her husband's. Men are not allowed anywhere near the woman's body, especially when the body is being cleaned.

That is my understanding of Islamic Law as well.

Let us try to sort the facts out before we take a stance on it as truth

Egypt 'necrophilia law'? Hooey, utter hooey.

Today, Egypt's state-owned Al Ahram newspaper published an opinion piece by Amr Abdul Samea, a past stalwart supporter of the deposed Hosni Mubarak, that contained a bombshell: Egypt's parliament is considering passing a law that would allow husbands to have sex with their wives after death.

It was soon mentioned in an English language version of Al-Arabiya and immediately started zipping around social-networking sites. By this afternoon it had set news sites and the rest of the Internet on fire. It has every thing: The yuck factor, "those creepy Muslims" factor, the lulz factor for those with a sick sense of humor. The non-fact-checked Daily Mail picked it up and reported it as fact. Then Andrew Sullivan, who has a highly influential blog but is frequently lax about fact-checking, gave it a boost with an uncritical take. The Huffington Post went there, too.

Juniperb, no good is going to come of this. The Huffington Post did a very weak retraction. Usually, I appreciate HuffPost for remaining neutral, but this is just fanning flames that have already done a good deal of damage. People who needed little to jump on the bandwagon are on it for good. There is no evidence of this law at all, yet people too readily believe what they want.

Delilah, it is always sad when these type of stories harm any Faith, Race or even Political situtation.

I was suprised Huffy carried the article but thankfully they are retracting, sort of .

Hopefully those who jumped on the bandwagon has enough common sense or eye opening awareness that the social media is a den of vipers who will say anything for a fearmongering story.

There can be disturbing, extremist views in any culture. Bestiality is not illegal in Denmark for instance (and this is in the Western world!).

Lalalinda, thank you for posting the follow up links.

quote:
It does appear that Amr Abdul Samea has done a considerable disservice to those who are fighting the increasing hold of religious extremists in Egypt following the “Arab Spring.” The exaggeration has taken away from the needed attention to the plight of girls and women in Egypt who may face one of the greatest rollbacks in rights in modern history. We have already seen countries like Iran and Iraq rollback such rights. It is not clear what he thought he was accomplishing but his use of any means in political discourse was a signature of his former leader, Hosni Mubarak.

As for the necrophilia opinion of this cleric, the Muslims are not alone in having fringe religious figures.

Please accept my sincere apology Venus

I in no way meant to criticize or spread false propaganda about Muslims.

Admittedly, I know very little about the Muslim faith which is why I stated in the beginning that it was so hard to believe.

I don't think I'll be posting links to any articles from the Daily Mail Uk in the future.

Again, I am sorry.

thank you Ms Juni

Hi Venus,

My thoughtless comment wasn't directed at Arabs, just a quick reaction to reading the article about necrophilia. After reading the rest of the comments from LL members, I realized how offensive it is. So I want to say my bad, Venus. ♥

P.S. I don't think about race much on here, you guys are all purple to me.

Venus, just want to be clear that my own reaction was to necrophilia itself, and not to Arabic people.
