Yeah.. I have..

I don't think I learned how to deal with it, I am still plagued by shame and remorse.. To a lesser extent, but I don't think it will go away until I try to make things better with the person I have wronged. Indeed, in some circumstances, sorry seems to be the hardest word.. Admitting you did wrong, to their face, is also less preferable than, I don't know, intense physical pain?.. but the only way out, from what I have experienced.. and there is nothing like that sense of peace afterwards..
I hate living with a guilty conscience.. I am very prone to feelings of guilt, sometimes I take responsibility even for things that were not my own..

As a Born Again Christian, I believe God forgives everything and anything and does not even remember it, the Bible says.

i did quite a lot of things im not proud of (lying, stealing, using others) and even though i admitted my wrongdoing i stll had guilt to deal with...

all i can say that you are not a bad person for doing mistakes... but you are a bad person if you are unwilling to learn from them

learn your lessons from your behaviour and become a better person

that my opinion at least ^^

I did some illegal things to survive as a runaway but I'm a peace at that. One thing I did was steal...though even back then I broke into one home and when I thought of stealing jewelry I realized I couldn't do it as jewelry can be very sentimental (that is even if the insurance covers its theft you can't replace its memories). Luckily that turned out to not be an issue (the only thing I stole was a gun which got returned to the owner) and after that when it came to stealing I stuck to shoplifting.

When I was 17-18 (and had a stable place and even a job) I was in a convenience store and the guy at the register said he really had to take a call (personal, on his cell phone) and asked me to wait as he went into his office and closed the door for about 5 minutes. I waited patiently, made my purchases, and left. I was half way home when I realized that had I still been on the streets I'd have had a field day shoplifting (of course this was a small town I'm sure no store would do this in a large city, and they probably had a cam though that didn't mean they'd bother to look). I didn't regret "missing an opportunity" and realized then a difference between right, wrong, and survival. I didn't need to steal to survive so I didn't.

I am haunted by guilt over a couple of things that I'm not willing to share...but they were more thoughtless and immature (and in my teens) than malicious, and the sting of guilt keeps me from doing anything like that again. I do wish I could fully put it behind me now but once in awhile it comes up and I feel remorse again.

And I sometimes cringe (though not feel guilt) at some of the pranks I and others did as kids. Like me and friends would go into stores and grab some condoms and then slip them in a purse on sale and leave laughing at the thought of someone buying the purse and the cashier finding the condoms when checking the purse as policy dictated be done at the time of the sale. Why did we ever think that was funny? Though what bothers me more was just how stupid it was. The pranks I pulled as an adult tend to be a lot more clever. (And today I always inspect any packs or purses before buying them with a silent groan over my childhood memories.)

Though that does remind me of one other thing I felt guilt over. I tried convincing an armed survivalist (one among many) to help some tree huggers standing against Maxxam Corp and suffering police brutality for it and used reasons that I knew would appeal to him, but it didn't work, he just couldn't see past them being a bunch of hippies in his eyes, and made some snide remarks about me being one. I figured I'd show him what a hippie was and placed flowers in the barrels of his long guns that he had hanging in his front room. Unfortunately I picked these in the morning so they had dew on them and he (who knew it was me) ranted about the oxidation that could happen and I felt remorse as I meant to tease him not damage his property and offered to clean his guns for him but he wouldn't let me near them (though another told me later that he didn't let anyone touch his babies for more than a minute). Just another example of being young & stupid though I don't actually feel guilt over that anymore I just mentally kick myself for not THINKING it through before acting on my impulse.
