Seriously... SERIOUSLY couldn't watch this with a straight face on. Mentos sure knows how to put couples in the mood LMAO!

http://youtu.be/8jxU89x78ac

Details:

quote:
Mentos is applying its trademark fresh thinking to celebrate Singapore's National Day and help make the country even better. And it's starting by tackling our country's unbelievably low birthrate. Mentos presents National Night, a fresh new way to "celebrate" your love of Singapore.

*Only financially secure adults in stable, committed, long-term relationships should participate.*

Damn, this is just a Porno parody waiting to happen!

That's because you didn't grow up there. To us Singaporeans, it's passé. There is an overwhelming amount to smack talk about America, so leave the Singaporeans alone. Laugh at sorry sad lame a$$ America first before poking fun at another country.

YTA, please don't take offence at a harmless post I’m sure Xodian did not mean to insult anybody.

I think the song is pretty cool though a little too sleazy for my taste..

Singapore is not the only country that encourages its citizens to "populate".

Venus,

I'm American, as well as British. I don't give a flying crap what anyone thinks. Nobody fundamentally has a right to make fun of any country they don't belong to.

Don't you tell me to be more considerate to an individual who makes fun of a country they don't belong to.

Just out of curiosity: are you American by naturalization/have British citizenship by marriage? Or do you have British citizenship through your parents?

I ask because to my understanding, America doesn't always recognize dual citizenship (unless you happen to be so through one of your parents being born in another country, in which case I think it's very grudgingly accepted), so I was just curious as to how you got three citizenships, as I haven't known that you could do that. I thought that the US made you give up your other ones when you became American--did I get that wrong? Or are you no longer a citizen of the UK/Singapore? Or were you referring to ancestry when you said British? Hope that I'm not being nosy or anything.

YTA you can be Martian for all i care but you have to show respect for everyone else. i do not see a single sign of disrespect in the opening post, he merely explained his amusement with the Mentos ad which i do not believe is of any cultural/national value, is it?

you said: "Nobody fundamentally has a right to make fun of any country they don't belong to. "

You know... I was about to post a big statement explaining as to why I am not going to make any apologies for my post and it does not in ANYWAY pokes fun at Singapore's Cultural values.

But it seems like Venus beat me to it:

YTA; Where exactly in my post did I make derogatory remarks on Singapore? I was merely amused at the method the government in question chose to invest its time in address the problem of declining birth rates.

A funny commercial is a funny commercial and a hilariously bad idea is a hilariously bad idea; Regardless of its national, political or cultural connections. If the U.S. had chosen to invest its time in telling its citizens about declining birthrates through a similar method, I would have laughed as well and posted it here.

Though FYI; I personally don't know why you would wanna take aim at the U.S. as a comeback retort on my post considering that it clearly says under my username that I am Canadian .

I found it funny. It's not nearly as bad as the "Skittles: Newlyweds" commercial

It's perfectly fine and happy to answer.

I gave up Singapore citizenship as soon as I got out of there. Singapore won't allow multiple cutizenships except for very unique individuals, which my father happens to be one.

The family has a bunch of OBEs and CBEs, and so we're inherently British by appointment. My father was always British by naturalization. I was born in Singapore though.

I am American by marriage, by naturalization and by choice.

I can also be Australian and Canadian by economic citizenship but choose not to (don't blame me for those countries wanting to automaticslly hand out citizenships to those who deploy capital). I rather be American

So I'm American and British.

My very dear friend in LL is Singaporean and I'm defending her honor.
