"We can express this in the following way (see diagram above): we begin life holding on to positions of comfort and dependency. As we get older we are naturally drawn outward, towards actions that will bring us power. This outer zone seems unfamiliar and unpredictable, but inviting. At certain points of moving in this direction, however, we inevitably encounter a resistance or obstacle that triggers a fear–that of being alone, having to confront people and possibly displease them, making mistakes and being criticized, feeling bored and empty, dealing with change and possible adversity, losing what we have, facing death itself. At the instant we feel this fear we look backwards towards what is safe and comforting and move in that direction. We do not explore or take risks. We react and retreat in a single line. We draw a circle around ourselves that cuts us off from power, one that becomes a kind of self-imposed prison...."

I've found this to be very true, which led to a study how Fear ingrains itself in everyone's thoughts, actions and even opinions.

Fear is not a bad thing per se, if one sees a large dorsel fin fear is what prevents us from thinking it "Charlie the Tuna". However when fear of soft things, opinions of others, or failure, or a lack of time, or even legitimate criticism causes one to pull back from life and being an individual it causes a sort paralysis of thinking and action.

I don't know a whole lot about the origin of it... I've led a pretty fast-paced life and no matter how scared i have been, i haven't had the option of being scared.

You either do or die and if ever that little voice creeps in, it's imo more than likely due to anticipation.

I have a bit of a compulsive streak because of this and close to 0 patience.

I'm in no way saying that i endorse blind recklessness; i'm a pretty well read individual and i know it. If i didn't have the smarts that i do, there'd be no way in hell i'd consider advising someone to do half of the sh*t that i do.. There's a fine line between being fearless and a menace-- sometimes, though.. feelings really only waste time. : /

I've had to give speeches in front of hundreds of people since like age 8. I've had to sing in front of a lot more as well. I used to perform a lot while also in high school so maybe that's where i've gotten partial training.

I've lived very nomadic and always had to meet new people and adapt... If u ask me, fear is somewhat of a luxury.

For me, it is not that feelings get in the way, it is "our" reactions to feelings that can certainly get in the way and cause self defeating fear to rule lives.

But that is the thing RP, "gift"?

"we" withdraw from life and place ourselves into our own sort of supermax prisons of our own design.

Ones not based on what we have actually done, rather ones just based on a fear of not pleasing others.

**** that, it is settled Ober Dictum that one cannot escape the consequences of a situation by not choosing to set our own path in life.
