I doubt the thread was moved because of a particular word.

As mods, we have to take the subject matter into consideration as well as where the topic might lead to, thus moving it to Sweet Peas was the right call.

Yesterday, I moved your vegetarian thread, which was posted in LLC2 (not the first time) to the appropriate forum. We do have forum descriptions to use as guide lines. There's no harm in asking if you are not sure.

Please don't take offense if a thread is moved. We are only trying to help. You will receive more responses if the thread is in the correct forum.

Juni was correct in moving it. By mentioning porn, you gave this string wings in a certain direction. Since then, others have wanted to talk about the subject matter of Chris Crocker, but you continued to harp on pornography, in a sense derailing your own string. The real world has a lot of things that are not fit for LL, and porn is just one of them. LL doesn't have to address every topic under the sun. This is a Linda Goodman and Astrology centered site. In the future when a Mod tells you something, don't argue. The Mods are extensions of myself. Think of them as the LL police. If you have a complaint about the actions of a Mod, go to me directly. Arguing with a Mod will get you nowhere. Just like arguing with a cop. You may be in the right, but once you start arguing, you will still get arrested.

Maybe more porn awareness would result in less young adults jumping into the industry for easy money once they've been made aware that most 90% of the adults working in the industry have genital herpes; their std testing is mostly for hiv and the results don't even take into consideration the 3-month wait period for accurate results...

If this is about guiding our youth, we can start by informing them... Not opressing others for the sake of keeping the young ignorant. If it is about keeping an image for the sake of the sponsors aka adverts - well, that's a different story and just say so.

For *anyone* else wondering, yes, most 90% of the actors in the porn industry have herpes. Their hiv test results are the only results taken into acct before they're working a scene with another actor (not hepatitis a, b-- which can be transmitted through kissing, btw--or anything else). Also, there has to be at least a three month wait period for one to test and receive accurate test results when it comes to testing for hiv.

They may get an RNA test 1-2 weeks after their last sexual encounter (much more accurate & also costly) for a faster result but, those that test a regular way, may not be aware if they've only recently been exposed.

Do you guys feel that this is something only "adults" should be concerned about? Or is it something you'd hope your underage kids come across as they're sneaking their way to porn behind your back?

I don't feel as if i posted anything wrong and not even as if i posted something that went against the rules.

What i posted was maybe unconventional because it brought up the word "porn" but if you'd like to keep up with the times, this is what the conventional reality is; you may not like it but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

I know that this has nothing to do with your original post, but based on what you said above I guess I will be the bearer of bad news.

Way more people in the general population have herpes than most people realize. They have done studies which required participants (young people all the way to seniors) to do swab testing for a period of 30 days and discovered that almost all of them were carrying the herpes virus and that (I think it was) 75% of them actually had Herpes 1 (oral herpes).

1 in 6 people in the States have Herpes 2 (genital herpes) and standard STD testing does not test for it - you must request it. Out of those people who do have it, 80% of those people are unaware that they have it. And then if you add to that the number of people who are simply carriers of the virus but show no symptoms, it's way more common than you think.

The other thing is that herpes is considered a skin disease by some doctors and a skin condition by others.

I know I went off track there but it's not just the people in the porn industry who have it and at the very least they are made aware of it while most of the general population have no clue they have it at all. And sadly, condoms help but they are not totally fool proof.

Is herpes type one what causes cold sores?

Yep. Herpes 1 is oral (cold sores) and Herpes 2 is genital. It's literally the same virus but HSV 1 lives behind your cheekbone in the nerve roots (if I remember correctly) and HSV 2 lives in the nerve roots of your spine. Same virus, different places where they manifest.

Yikes, herpes is very common then. I've witnessed cold sores on young children & people of all ages. Kind of a yucky question, but could the type one virus migrate to the genital area? I remember discussing a lot of other STDs in school, but rarely herpes. Seems most of discussion was on HIV, gonorrhea, syphillis. Now my teenage children tell me there is a new focus on HPV but few mention of herpes or even hepatitis.

HSV 1 technically *can* migrate to the genitals through oral means (and vice versa) but it's very unlikely. Each part of the virus seems to be attracted to one specific area - 1 to the mouth and 2 to the genitals.

I agree that they do not focus on it overly much. In the US I'm not sure why but in Canada doctors are more likely to consider it a skin condition (which it is, in a sense) and so although it is an STD it isn't tested for standardly. Kind of gets brushed under the carpet. Also HSV 2 is way more stigmatized because of where it manifests.

I'm surprised kids are being taught about syphilis though in lieu of other things.
