I always try to get better with my depression and anxiety. I've tried valiantly to take medication. Now I'm taking a new one, celexa, and I'm already feeling like hell. AND it's not even the full dose yet!

Does anyone else have this issue? Medication for mental illness/anxiety/etc in the beginning making you feel SO sick, nauseated, drowsy, head achey etc., that you just want or really, need to stop to function at work/school/in daily life?

Yet it's a total paradox... you need to stop the meds to survive daily life without being a sickened zombie, yet going off will only make panic or depression worse. Sigh. I have no idea what to do, except call the psych in this 'here we go again' fashion...

This is just me. I am a super naturally oriented person. I have never taken any medication for depression, anxiety etc

I will tell you what I do?

1. I talk about it. I drive people crazy, sometimes, but you have to talk about it.
2. You have to cry. This is essential. The pain comes out through tears. Read "Cure By Crying" by Thomas Stone
3. Exercise is a natural emotional help. Yoga is the same
4. Raw food helps give you good energy, which helps
5. I would take nutritional things for depression such as noni juice, super green foods etc
6. I take a little wine for relaxation but do not seem to want more than a small amount so feel like I am safe with it. Some people are not.
7. Have a passion you love such as music, art etc
8. Force yourself to reach out and help others, even if it is the last thing you want to do.
9. I need God or could not do any of this.

That is my 2 cents xoxox

Certain foods or food combinations can make you feel anxious. There is a lot you can do with diet to offset that.

Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners, by Amadea Morningstar, is my favorite book for learning about foods and moods.

Also, Cook your Way to the Life You Want by Christina Pirello.

Any chance you have Lyme Disease or a tick-borne illness? These are rampant in PA...I had a lot of anxiety from Bartonella, a Lyme co-infection.

Best wishes to you.

I, as a clinician, am ALL for anything natural you can do!

However, I as a patient myself, have very altered brain chemistry and I need a SSRI to keep the, baddies I call them, the stress hormones from rampaging my brain and my body~

So, I agree with Ami and Faith, but I will also tell you that the negative side effects of any antidepressant, especially SSRI's almost always goes away after time.

Alot of meds are like that, but once the body gets used to the chemicals, the bad experiences usually subside.

Hang in there...like you said, quite the paradox...

Been there, done that, still doing.

Blessins!

Its better to stay on the meds and then contact your doctor and come up with a new plan. Depression must be hard I can only imagine and uh I have what is called schizo affective disorder and take meds for it, it makes me feel pretty normal but I still have the disease and so I am interested in taking seroquel with the hopes that it will make me feel much better so I'm trying to contact my doctor for an early appointment for this change in prescription. btw I take my meds only at night, cant handle them in the day time ...... so try your best to find the right meds that will suit you I find that seroquel treats depression so make a consultation, its awful to take it during the day time when you are not sleeping.

Thanks for all the compassionate replies.

I'm seeing my psychiatrist today. I'd only been off the pills for 4-5 days so it wasn't that terrible. But I took action and I'm going to try a new brand hopefully or just get advice since the nausea is too crippling for me to function in every day life and I think this brand might just not be for me.

Thanks for all the advice and comfort here. I feel really agitated today because of hormones + birth control I've been on for two weeks which is a worry. The hormone overload is making me very moody and out of control inside... glad I'm seeing the doctor today, also a new OBGYN next week.

Quick update... went and got Zoloft today. If this class of meds won't work, I'll maybe try another. I just feel that genetically the odds are stacked against me. But I'm going to do meditation, deep breathing, and DBT - not just rely on meds to get well.

I also stopped the bad birth control. It just wasn't working out for me. I feel like I can wait a week, till my next appt... with PMS the pills are just too much for me, and are making my depression and mood swings 100x worse.
