I am going to post this here, cause I really cant find an appropriate forum for it. It is clearly a psychological issue!

IF somebody wants to move it, then please do!

I am the world's worst emotional eater!

I spend the day before I go in to work for my 3 12 hour shifts cooking and preparing beautiful lunches, snacks, people I work with always marvel at "what has Terri cooked this time?"

However, I get to work and I crave bad things. I can eat whatever is in sight, nightshift are great pot lucker's. They always have their meals together and always leave this and that for us day-shifters.

At home, I eat sparingly. AND xtreamly healthy....get to work and I crave what is not good.

So my question...What in the world can I use to fill this false feeling of void while at work?

My job is stressful, sure, but this is the least stressful ICU I have ever worked in, a huge reason for me choosing this place to work!

Are there any supplements, herbs, visualizations, something to keep me from wanting to over eat at work?

THanks all!!!! In advance!

terri~

I woudl think that hospital cafeteria food is yucky. It's the reverse for me when I'm at the hospital. I wouldn't eat for days.

Do you like dark chocolate? You might already know this...it can improve one's mood, and may prevent other cravings. I rely on it.

It's especially effective when the wrapper is pretty!

hippichick,

I'm an apple and banana kind of guy. It fills you up. Unless you have high potassium issues, that's stuff that's good for you. Otherwise, the hospital is all about french fries and crap. What sickens me is that it's all physicians who are lining up for the burgers and fries.

^ Raw apples alone cause some people anxiety (like me.) I learned this from studying Ayurvedic medicine and proved it out by experience. Peanut butter on the apples might work.

Bananas are better for anxiety, but they are so high in sugar that without any fat or protein, they may cause your blood sugar to spike, and you might crave more later. Peanut butter on the bananas?

About chocolate...

quote:
Dark chocolate and mood have been studied for years and it appears that chocolate contains stimulant, euphoriant, aphrodisiac, relaxant, and antidepressant properties, according to the study found in the June 2006 issue of the "Journal of Affective Disorders." Consuming chocolate can be associated with feelings of joy, pleasure and guilt and can both negatively and positively affect your mood, depending on the situation and the amount that person consumes.

For me, it seems to keep me uplifted. I eat chocolate every day and, for the record, never gain weight.

Haha... it keeps me uplifted alright. I can finish boxes of Godiva in a single seating. Unfortunately, I balloon like a parachute.

Since I worked hard to lose the 35 pounds I've lost over the last two months, it's a no go for me hahaha

Fried chicken always keeps me happy but it doesn't work lol

^DARK chocolate Godiva?

I guess everyone's different, but I'm 110 pounds and eat all I want.

The high-fiber content in cocoa helps in weight reduction as fiber prevents fat absorption of the body.
Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby, explains how flavonoids in one bar of dark chocolate is equal to the flavonoids of six apples.
The epicatechins (antioxidant) of cocoa is known for its fat-burning ability.
Anandamide a “bliss chemical” is also found in cocoa helps in uplifting your mood, which can prevent you from overeating.
Cocoa also increases the insulin sensitivity of your body thereby balanced amount of sugar is maintained in the body preventing it from converting into fat.

I noticed in myself that when I stop eating bad food altogether, your body gets used to it and craves mostly good food. But it takes about three weeks for this to take into full effect. I portion control now, eat mostly gluten free (if I want chips or whatever), hardly any pure sugar, and no noodles... Carbs make me sluggish and what not.

Exercise like yoga is great as well. It can be very claming and a great workout if you do it right. So cardio.

Try those things...
