I either want to be eaten up, or burned up.....from what i have read earlier, when i was more spiritual, there is a spiritual beneift to being cremated or burned up, consumed by fire.....it helps your energies cross over more completely than if you let your body slowly decompose....

our energy will hang around the body for quite awhile when buried in the earth. Fire helps us cross over more completely and quickly. The Indians have done it this way forever, for a reason.

^We have actually! Unless you mean East Indians. Regardless!

We'd put the body in a simple cedar and birch casket, elevated I think, then light it ablaze.

I love that.

What do they do for orphaned elderly people?

Well...back then, a "tribe" was really a group of families living and travelling together. The sense of community was strong and everyone would attend the funeral ceremony. If it was an orphaned elderly person, they'd be taken care of, whether by the chief's family (which is what I would assume) or their neighbours at the time, hell, even the descendants of their friends.

Wow. That's amazing and pretty much unheard of here. Really beautiful. It's nice to see that elders are still respected and revered on some ends of the globe.

Wisdom disappears with them. Younger people should listen to them more....

Well considering that my 8H ruler is in Aries conj Sun and Mars and opposite Pluto, I guess I should be cremated too..

Definitely don't want my energies lingering in this dump hole called earth. I'm taking all my soul atoms with me!!!

In my country everybody is buried though. Guess I'm gonna be the black sheep in death as well as in life.

Had a little chat with an artist last evening and the subject of the artist who took volunteer's corpses and freeze dried them and used them in art pieces came up.

To me, basically all the artist did was freeze dried corpses and stuff sticks up their backsides, I found it quite profane

My question is would anyone donate their corpse for such a project?

It's disturbing, but I find it interesting nonetheless. I wouldn't mind admiring the art but I wouldn't contribute.

I wouldn't donate my body to anything. I was considering med school before actually attending it and seeing how disrespectful students are to corpses. No, thanks. I know I wouldn't "be" around to care, but I still wouldn't want my body exposed and made fun of. Had enough of that in life, no need to continue in death.

Cremation it is. Really makes sense for my 70% Fire chart.

That seems so odd to me Hera as you are very attractive young lady (?)

Secondly, I can understand the artist's point, Death is simply not discussed in the West and his display was meant to show reality.

However, like you, that is not a tub of chicken livers, those are people's remains and should deserve some level of deference not hoisted up like a deer's head on the wall.

This is why it struck me as profane

There's a entire museum of preserved bodies, I know I'd never want my body to end up there on display. I'd rather be fed to the wolves.

I for sure wouldn't want my family and friends to be sobbing and depressed but that's inevitable. I would like a celebration, maybe a tribute of sorts and make people smile in my remembrance.. (a little narcissistic, lol)

"Cheers, to (my name)!"

i like what we did when my mom transformed...id like something like that...

id like to be cremated and a memorial service for those that knew me to gather and get to know each other and share stories about who i am to them...there would be pictures of me posted on those boards and i have already picked out 2 songs...1. momma by boys to men, 2. in the garden...dont care the version(johnny cash would suit me fine) i just love the message! other than that i hope sharing memories of me brings laughter to others and as did my moms open my mind to see her other than a mother, she had someone show up from her childhood and told of a character that resembled me...i never knew that side of my mom. btw mom left us at 45yrs and did not live in the same state she grew up in, dad was military.

so id like my children to know who i am...i try now to live my life so they know now but you never know what someone else sees in you.

oh and please no one dress up...i have always been blue jean/t-shirt/flip flop or barefoot girl so by all means come in your pjs if you want!

@ faith, you needn't be an official quaker to do it their way, this was my mother's request and very moving. We were unable to comply with her wish to be "returned" by ash scattering, to the hudson river which had been her love all her life, regardless of who else came and went...by the time her ashes had been delivered our plane tickets had forced us to return to the pacific, and we scattered them there with the one dear lifelong friend who hadn't made it to her last "party"

I agree that ceremonies are for.those left behind, they really help to process the passage out of OUR lives..

And the best i have been to featured music chosen by the deceased, tapes recorded before they left, and, in two instances, a tape (looped?) of them laughing to escort us out the door...

I would like to be cremated and.informally.celebrated

/remembered by those who attend in an outdoor venue away from urban life. I don't know where yet though i do have a list of places special to me...but my people are scattered across the globe so attending will be expensive for most unless they get their merkabas sorted in time.

I rashly promised my daughter (when shebecame so terrified re my imminent death - i was 40 so she was sure no one could live much longer than that!) that i will be here until at least 150, so since i always keep my promises i have plenty of time to refine.the details!

My sister accidentally said my mumsy would live to see her youngest grandchild's granchildren. At 100, if the mentioned grandchild and his child start early, it's possible.

Your mom is 100 now? Tell her carry on tommy!

There are some really lovely ideas here...your left-behinds will appreciate that one last thing they get to do for/with you...it is not a time when they will want to have to think about "what she would have liked" so i think of it as our last gift - to send them on their way...
