When I was a kid my papaw took me to a barber shop to get my head buzzed and the barber did something seemingly innocent that ended up traumatizing me.While he was cutting my hair he pulled out a fake bloody ear and screamed "I accidently cut your ear off!" and it freaked me the f*ck out. Ever since then everytime I get my hair cut I get startled and flinch whenever the person touches my ear and I feel intense
anxiety until they let go. Of
course I know nobody is going
to really cut my ear off and I
know my reaction is kind of silly
but Its something that I cant stop.Do you ever
experience things that trigger
childhood traumas,fears etc. ?

My car got hit by a Mack truck right before I got married. I spiralled across the freeway hitting a few cars, smashed into the wall, and ended up jammed under the trailer of the truck that hit me. My car was totalled, but I was fine.

For a year or two after that, sitting in the passenger seat while my husband was driving, I would shrink away from any passing tractor trailer, like I was expecting it to hit me. I could imagine it happening all too clearly.

My husband started getting annoyed with it and asked me to just flat-out stop reacting. I faked it for a while until I didn't have to any more.

I think I'm pretty good at consciously overcoming fear. When I was about two years old, my aunt's dog clawed my face badly while I was strapped into a stroller. I was understandably terrified of dogs for a while. Then when I was five, I thought about how cute dogs were and how other people loved them, and I didn't want to be crippled by fear or kept away from this normal experience of enjoying dogs. So I asked my mother for a dog, so I wouldn't be scared any more.

That's how I got the only dog I ever had.

I'm scared to eat Mushrooms.

When I was 7 the front lawn was out of control and there was wild mushrooms all over the place.

I ended up pulling out a wild mushroom and was 2 seconds away from eating it. Thankfully, my grandma was close by.

To this day I will only eat mushrooms that are served on pizza, it took me some time but I know that its been checked.

If the mushroom is fresh I won't even touch it or eat it.

My dad once was taken out to a restaurant and ordered something without knowing what was in it, and it was apparently like loaded with onions or something, and he didn't like onions as a kid, but it was an expensive dish, and he was forced to eat it all.

Ever since then, he can't stand the taste of onion without wanting to vomit...

My father had that with fish. He hated fish but liked scallops. His mother tried to push fish on him and lie that it was scallops
