Too bad I don't have any orange clothes.Spreading awareness is essential. Violence against women strikes a sensitive chord in me - having experienced it in my household growing up. Just thinking about it feels like I'm having a panic attack.
I don't understand how people can ever lay a hand on another living being. It's something I cannot comprehend. Thanks for sharing, SF. IP: Logged |

Arguments don't just happen, haha. It takes (at least) two people to create an argument. Anyway. Off topic! Moving on.

Applying people who stand up for these beliefs make a mockery of it.. being silent does not help at all actually. Plenty of people deal with this stuff in their own way... people who pretend this stuff does not exist or ignore the severity are just as worse as the people who commit these deeds.IP: Logged |

Ok. On topic - It scares me that not enough is being done. There is too much 'blah' and not enough action - and it's all so damn political. I feel apprehensive about commenting here.I feel a bit like.. If this world was a person and the person was in grave pain and needed pain killers... Saying "There There... It's all going to be Ok!" helps slightly... but it doesn't really make the problem go away. Celebrating a special day called "International Heal the World Day" would be a nice gesture and it could indeed raise awareness.. but the World needs pain killers and actual treatment. IP: Logged |

Well, that goes without saying. But there's not much one can do on an individual scale.People need to be educated properly from early on. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen and then we're left with some people who have no moral compass and who walk around mistreating people and things around them. Question is: how do we stop them? Mhm, not easy.

I understand where you are coming from, I know it is not much. However, it isn't just one day. Every 25th of the month is dedicated to this topic. Each month it coincides with other topics. So in one month, they may be focusing on safety in the work place for women and girls, another month it may be in schools, etc. I feel the same way, that not enough is being done. I am grateful for all the charities, time, effort, and work that people put in. It is simply amazing, however on a global or worldwide scale. More could be done. I'm not here to say that certain, cultures or religions perpetuate violence and opression against Women. However, the sooner that people who are in great positions of power, both socially, politically and financially back things like this. The greater the impact. Can you imagine, if everyone on TV, all the presenters, all the news channels, all the news papers. All the advertising, both TV, Radio and in life all spent just this one day expounding what an issue this is? If sporting role models, Actresses and Actors, comedians, all made a stand for this? If owners of the huge corporations, focused their companies for one day to support this. Think of the billions of dollars that get spent on Presidential election campaigns. Imagine if those dollars were spent towards a campaign like this instead? Imagine if that happened world wide? If across the world, everyone who could reach out to substantial numbers of the population made people aware of this problem. The problem I see it, is a lack of unity, of cohesiveness. The people who give most of their time and effort to support this, and movements like this are incredible, but they cannot do it alone. The feelings, views, taught by society need to be changed, need to reflect that behaviour like this is inexcusable and intolerable. I do personally think that much of societal teachings, tell us that we can't do anything, that we are one person, that we cannot make a difference. This is how people profit, how people take and keep what they want, how they keep the status quo so it suits them. I don't have an answer, for how something like this will get recognised world wide, and that something serious will be done on a global scale to combat it. I can only do my best to support, promote, and stand up for it. I know to some they may sound like empty words, but the world needs to learn that it is 1 community. Who cares, what country, religion, background you are from? We are all equal and these issues affect us all. It's disheartening. The world could be such a beautiful place. If only there weren't any people. ------------------ Learn lots. Don't judge. Laugh for no reason. Be nice. Seek Happiness. Follow your dreams. IP: Logged |

On topic, thank you, Swift Freeze Awareness is everything. Unfortunately I didn't really understand men too well when I went to college. If I had, I wouldn't have experienced date rape as one of my early experiences. My college even seemed to take date rape lightly, since the President of the class below mine was accused by several women of date rape and was dealt with only by a college judiciary committee, which required him to do community service. A little slap on the wrist. I hate to have to tell my daughter to gear up for battle against a culture that is obsessed with sex and glorifies promiscuity, expecting her to go with the flow and not, for example, be prepared for men pressuring her to go beyond her comfort zone. But that's what I'll be doing. It's good to know many people are promoting awareness all at once, like a chorus going out across the globe. Every effort helps and is appreciated. IP: Logged |

Thank you for posting this SF.Violence in general is not acceptable although I may be a bit bias when it comes to violence against women and kids as I have lived through it and volunteered at several shelters for women who had no other place to go. The problem we endured a lot was whem mum called the cops and they got there, despite seeing how bloodied and bruised we were..they couldn't help because it was a "domestic" dispute. There are laws now protecting to protect against such violence but people still need to raise awareness and speak up. Suffering in silence is no way to go. It could literally lead to a life and death situation. If you are a victim, please know that there is a way out. You don't deserve it and don't make excuses or think that the other person will change overnight. Get out! The kids deserve better too and exposing them to such an enviroment is traumatic. ------------------ "DON'T EVER try and destroy someone's life with a LIE.....when yours can be destroyed with the TRUTH...."
