I'd be curious when those people got married, the professions of those who got divorced from each other, etc. I'd also be curious if any professions were less likely to get married in the first place. IP: Logged |

I just found this article: http://www.contemporaryfamilies.org/impact-of-conservative-protestantism-on -regional-divorce-rates/ quote: Why are divorce rates higher in religiously conservative “red” states and lower in less religiously conservative “blue” states? After all, most conservatives frown upon divorce, and religious commitment is believed to strengthen marriage, not erode it. Even so, religiously conservative states Alabama and Arkansas have the second and third highest divorce rates in the U.S., at 13 per 1000 people per year while New Jersey and Massachusetts, more liberal states, are two of the lowest at 6 and 7 per 1000 people per year.Evangelicals and divorce. For a new study appearing later this month in the American Journal of Sociology, Demographers Jennifer Glass at the University of Texas and Philip Levchak at the University of Iowa looked at the entire map of the United States, going county by county, to examine where divorces occurred in 2000 and what the characteristics of those counties were. Their work confirms that one of the strongest factors predicting divorce rates (per 1000 married couples) is the concentration of conservative or evangelical Protestants in that county.
It then looks at various possibilities at why it might be so. IP: Logged |

Oh? How come? Which particular Engineering Field does he works in if you don't mind me asking? I personally find my job quite rewarding since I get a first hand chance to play around with all the new toys and tech on the market these days . Had a chance to check out the Smart Glass Tech. that's always so popular at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show.) I am thinking of applying the same techology onto key areas of my house . I want a Tony Stark-esque house . IP: Logged |

<Edit> I don't like to feel as though I'm either bragging or complaining, so there's no real right way for me to continue with this line of conversation. In retrospect, I probably should not have entered into this thread if I wanted to avoid either of those things. I'm glad that you like your job, Xodian. IP: Logged |

Police and sheriff patrol officers 15.01Eh divorce rates are actually pretty high in our department. I suppose people don't realize what they are getting themselves into. The warm fuzzy feelings go away when their spouse works 15 hour rotating shifts lol IP: Logged |

I do commend you. My cousin is a cop, and another cousin is a state trooper in a nearby state. They have tough jobs (and contrary to negative stereotypes, they are very fair-minded, caring people), but if it's a person's calling, they tend to love their job from what I can tell. Dealing with death and violence on such a regular basis is not easy, and I think that it requires a very spiritual mindset (from hearing my cousin talk about it) to deal with that. My brother has been in the Marines since high school, and is now thinking of becoming a cop. I often wonder if he knows what he would be getting into as well... Always worried about my "little" brothers, haha. IP: Logged |

In my job, you are *expected* to become divorced eventually. It almost seems like not being divorced holds back your career. When they look around the room, they see "family man"..."loves family too much".. "oh, four kids..." "worse, family woman... pregnant again..." and then they smile... they see single and childless guy... frigid woman who doesn't like relationships!.. there you go... next executive leader...IP: Logged |
