Although I would extend that to social exclusion.

quote:
"Anyone who thinks solitary confinement isn't cruel and unusual is either a masochist or has never experienced it firsthand. Even for just a few hours, it's intolerable, *especially* when you're mad. And if you're not crazy to begin with, it's a great way to get there. Studies have shown that solitary confinement can and does induce insanity in some cases. Besides the depression, anxiety and rage that you'd expect with prolonged seclusion, there's also the potential for hallucinations, impulse control problems, as well as impaired memory, concentration and cognitive functioning, even in individuals with no prior diagnosis or history of mental illness.

So, why in the hell would anyone even consider using it as a treatment for insanity? The way I see it, it's not just counterproductive, it's moronic - dare I say, *insane*. Why not use laxatives to treat diarrhea or garlic to treat halitosis? I've heard arguments claiming that people don't remember most of what they experience when they're psychotic, and thus putting them in isolation isn't so bad. They'll forget it soon enough.

I didn't.
I still have nightmares about it, and I still dread the very real possibility of finding myself in isolation once again, with guards and nurses who refuse to look at me or answer my questions, for fear of catching whatever I have. I've never been the object of more vicious indifference in my life, and I've never felt more invisible and worthless."

It's a good book - I read it last October. This is how I've felt at home on a regular basis, over the past two years.

If you liked that book you'd probably like Persepolis which sounds similar and does touch on mental illness. It comes in comic form as well which has a lot more detail.

Thank you for your that most-gracious and kind comment, Faith...

Faith, your 'powers of observation' are also quite awesome.... I tell you!, that there has been a semi-telepathic link between us Faith-- and recently found asteroid 16 Psyche point has been involved, haha...

I feel that kind of connection with a handful of people here... That's soooo great! My only "grievance" (humorously here) would be that of 'Originality'!!? The points of Who says What, first!! omg!!! OWTH!! *grin* I swear to you, that sometimes things look like a word-for-word, copy paste.

I hope that many of you know already, that I firmly BELIEVE in giving 'credit' to whom credit is due. But omg, I've ACTUALLY had to "delete" some of my posts because I found some one "thought" I had copied their work WITHOUT giving out references to their work.... I was so shocked! That wasn't true at all-- now? I see it as a kind of "left-handed" compliment, humorously.

You know, at SOME point, there's awakening going on. It's soooo marvelous! It's evidence, that we are 'hearing' and drawing from the same Collective nonlocal well.... I am freakin so excited about this! The cool challenge now is maturity: to give each other the 'benefit of the doubt' that we can 'individually' hear the same message being given out of the universal floes... So incredibly DEEP within me, I feel so exhilarated by this! SUPER-LOVIN IT!!! It's like the Best school DISCOVERY-Lab you could ever partake in..... more!

TODAY, my pMoonScorpio passed over the arc-exactitude of pSaturnScorpio... Now will remain in same degree for next the week following... (wow, learning astrology by feel *)

Transiting SaturnScorpio is coming into contact with the cusp of my 12th House (where there was an Eclipse Nov 2012);

PixieJane YOU have been one of my inspirations here... Pixie does her homework, and YOU Rock!! sooo deeply research oriented.... You are amazing!! Like the example above, seems that all those answers come out true on so many deep layers of thought. I've admired that about you (as I've said that before).

(BTW, I too 'considered' maybe that teasel's extracted quote could have (in author-context) reflected Melody's type of sassi-serious wit-humor... And similar to PJ movie, Melody IS Iranian ancestry, but FULLY American Chicago-born--, perhaps 12d SunPisces, Moon mid-late Taurus, 1979!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melody_Moezzi

Teasel.... soooo much Love to you! I know you're all frustrated, raring to go-- but these transits are like foot on gas, other foot on brakes, hand on adjusting rearview mirrors, other hand on gearshift gunning engine in Neutral! ...

Teasel, you may find this vid astrologer broadcast really mirroring for today---
David Palmer [10:06] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X3mAN6gH9A

And I FOUND this new url (to me) earlier this morning. In the past recent few days I 'discovered' Teal's utubes (TheSpiritualCatalyst) from a link off another vid astrologer's account...

[4:23pm ADDED-- The first video up on Teal's account that day was her post on the horrific abuse she'd been through in her childhood and teens. Such validation for me!, because I had been posting on Dee's thread, and other places, about reforms that are needed in the industry. I'm feeling 'a little old' and exhausted from what-all I went through in my lifetime, standing against this kind of abuse when it was NOT a good thing to do, back then... (chuckle). I'd go on what my old friends used to call a tare (solo-crusade) (political activism). It's dangerous to be alone in a fight like that.... I'm glad she has supporters.... (politically, the consequence can be 'social-death'... an actual 'strategy' they enact on those who are vulnerable and not 'protected'--- I'm sooo glad for Melody, and for TEAL.... I admire them!).

Teal just 'sums it all up' for me here, in her utube link below.... woah! (I LOVE it!!) I think many here might be able to relate to this one video of hers-- although I see that some may think she is controversial... You know what? I listen, with my own 'filters' on. And Faith, like you said in a different thread, there's a 'ring' to Truth that is relevant to one's OWN path. You don't need to blindly "follow" gurus (... at least, for me only, FROM my own outrageous & kindly not-always-humble opinionated self... *ROF* *LMAO*-at-myself!)

Oh right, mirage! My Psyche is conjunct your sun! Hmmmm!

Weird that people thought you were copying them when you were merely reading their minds? Actually I've been noticing more and more how interconnected people are, and it plays out here. I will decide to post about a topic, come to LL a few hours later or the next day, and someone else has posted the topic. Earlier today I was really focused on one astro topic...I forget what it is now, but when someone posts about it in the next 24 hours, I will remember that "I thought of it first"!

Back to the topic...

If only everyone knew how to meditate, they could make it through solitary confinement better.

Is everyone familiar with the case of Damien Echols? (Acquitted since that video was made) Long story short, meditation while on death row kept him sane and intact.

PS Will check out the teal video later...

I watched half of it. A few comments~

I had used the phrase "emotional navigation system" on another thread a few days ago, thinking it was an original phrase. Here she says, "Think of your emotions like a navigation system."

I find it difficult to listen to her. Maybe it's the abuse she went through, still affecting her expression...it makes me wince...

But she must resonate with some people...she makes sense to you, so she must get through to others. Everything for a reason.

Interesting experience, watching that. Thanks for the recommendation.
