My aunt passed away today, actually this is my first time I'm dealing with death... I've never had to go through this before... So bare with me a little... She had cardiac arrest on wed and she wasn't breathing for 15mins maybe even longer. It was determined by doctors that she was brain dead. That she only had 1% of brain function and given 1% chance of survival. Docs said, she would never recover, or wake up.. So a decision to remove from life support, needed to be made... With little to no hope of recovery, it was decided to remove her from life support... She was given her last rights, and then taken off life support at Aprox 9pm Thursday. Afterwards, she was breathing on her own, and her blood pressure went to a normal rate, and her heart rate improved, her vitals were stable.. ( for what was expected) At some point, she opened her eyes, even grunted. Nurses said, it was only reflex. She hung on through the night and the next morning.. She passed at 12:40pm today Friday. Here's what I wanted to discuss.. Since she was brain dead, and clinically dead for 15 mins (when not breathing) Do you think her soul was already gone from the body? It's just bothering to to think, that her soul was kinda stuck in a waiting room (per say) She was given morphine for pain, which I can't understand, don't you need a brain to feel pain? The brain tells you you are in pain, so how could she feel pain... Do you think she was just kinda hovering over herself, like an out of body experience.. I know that it can only be theory, but it's just really bothering me on what was going on with her soul in between cardiac arrest and passing.. This was for 2 days... What could she have been going threw?? IP: Logged |

I don't know but it sounds depressing. That kind of stuff freaks me out big time. I put myself in her shoes and it's just scary. I just hope she couldn't feel anything.Sorry for your loss. IP: Logged |

Lioness, I've often pondered similar thoughts.I remember, as my uncle was slowly deteriorating from Lou Gehrig's disease (or ALS), he would occasionally be able to convey that he had seen his sister, who had also died from the disease. He wasn't able to talk or move much at all, but he was able to let us know that a few times. Maybe it would help if you read some first-hand accounts of near-death experiences? From what I have seen, it is often pleasant, being surrounded by loved ones or angels, or however one chooses to word that (spirit guides, etc). Some people I know who were dead for a short while didn't really experience anything, it was just similar to being unconscious. I've had some very close calls, and only once did I think that I started to travel down a "tunnel" of sorts, but was sort of sucked back to consciousness. Much love to you and your family. Thank you you two... What just bugs me, is she was clinically dead, and then actually brought make to life by a police officer, he did CPR, and got her heart rate back, but with such a long period of being (dead) did her soul leave, and come back? Or did I her soul leave and just kinda hover in a waiting period... Idk the unknown is bugging me,.. Know I won't really get answers, but just opinions would help either way... That's a good idea, I will google near death experiences.. Thank you, that will be very helpful. IP: Logged |

In the NDE that last awhile people report how they either made a choice to come back or were otherwise told it wasn't their time and made to come back and this was while people were fighting to save the body. So based on that I'd guess that your aunt wasn't present in the body at all and the grunt just a physical reaction. You might be amazed at what bodies can do even in rigor mortis, even suddenly sitting up isn't unheard of and passing of gas--which could come out as a grunt--is common. Here are some common examples: http://io9.com/5862418/10-bodily-functions-that-continue-after-death ETA: this has a vid on what bodies can do without a brain: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/000331.html Meanwhile, your aunt wouldn't have been present at all (or if she was then outside her body). At least that's based on what people report on common NDEs. Fairly typical example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKBlYXW0HDQ
Very brief summary given in the description: quote: This is where the near death experience occurred. I immediately entered another dimension of higher consciousness and experienced such profound peace. Even though the ER staff was rushing around frantically, and one nurse said, "We're losing her and the baby's heart rate is dropping," her words had no meaning to me. In addition, another nurse grabbed my wrist, and told me that she needed to poke a needle in my wrist and that it would hurt. Yet, you can probably imagine I felt no pain whatsoever. I was at zero point, at no meaning land....nothing had any signficance. My thoughts stopped, and the only thing that resonated was my heightened state of being. It just existed without putting any label to it. Incidentally, unbeknownst to me, my husband was told that we, the baby and I, may not make it and to prepare himself. Then I heard my own voice say, "I just want to go to sleep." Then another voice said, "It's not your time." This is when I was given an IV of heparin, which thins the blood, and I came back into the third dimension filled with the intense pain once again. To make a long story short, I did have pulmonary emboli (clots on my lung). I did recover and delivered a beautiful baby girl, Lindsay, one month later at a bouncing 3 lbs. 11 oz...she's a whopper

It's hard to answer these types of questions because we don't really know how things work on the other side. When my mamaw died she was in the intensive care unit and the only thing keeping her alive was a bunch of machines. She was dead for all intensive purposes but there was kind of a miraculous moment when I went into say my goodbyes she was out cold but when I held her hand she squeezed it and opened her eyes and looked at me for a few seconds. When I told the rest of my family this they didn't believe me because she had been completely nonresponsive for 2 days.IP: Logged |

I'm sorry for your loss Lioness. I think in death just as in birth, every experience is unique to that soul/person and you can't ever know how they experienced it. Here's a favorite youtube channel of mine that may be of interest: Afterlife TV with Bob Olson http://www.youtube.com/user/AfterlifeTVChannel/videos I've gone on a few 'benders' - meaning, staying up all night watching the interviews. Have not checked in in awhile and it looks like there are some new ones. I love Bob and he's great at i nterviwing people on this subject matter.
Hope it helps. IP: Logged |

bio channel had a good series on awhile back, i believe it was called Beyond and Back. You can probably find it online. It illustrates just how different these experiences can be and from what i've learned in years of spiritual study, it all depends on your consiousness. Because that is what actually moves on - that is what you take with you and shapes your experience.IP: Logged |
