I think of Odette when I think of this. I love people who see life in a clear way. It seems to be rare and more so as time goes on. It seemed as if grandmothers had more common sense than the grandchildren etc

However, maybe it was just my grandmother who had amazing common sense. She was a Gemini Sun, Gemini Venus and Libra ASC, like me.

She had a Virgo Moon and I can't remember the Mars. I will have to check.

I really admire people with good common sense.

What do you all think?

How do you see it?

Do you think you have it?

I'm sorry, but I'm very confused by this thread. What exactly is your inquiry, if you don't mind clarifying?

Merry Christmas, Ami!
How goes it? Did you have your fill of Christmas din-din?

I have common sense and then I don't. I thought for the longest time that we got beef from Buffaloes.

I see things for what they are.

I think I've got a pretty good amount of common sense but I still have my blonde moments.

I had a great day, Barbie. I had two family dinners but even more than that I feel that I finally healed from the pain of my mother. I feel I finally healed my depression. I am not saying I am perfectly healed because no one is but this is the first time I can say that on here and old time LL's know how I struggled so mightily with this. I am sure I will have some things that still bother me and I will talk about them. I may have set backs, too, but I owe all my healing to Jesus and that is why I had a WONDERFUL day.
Thank you for asking, Barbie. Tell me about your day

I admire how Odette thinks. I have from my first days on here 6-7 years ago. There are some people who have things to which you aspire and she is one.

That's awesome, Ami! So happy for you.
Glad you had a great day.

Our Christmas was excellent. Today was our niece's birthday and her mom cooked an excellent dinner. We had birthday cake of course which is always a plus. We're visiting his mama and then we'll go home and have more cookies lol.

Yes, I do. No need for the dramatics/jabs/rudeness please. I see you've added a 3rd, possibly more relevant, question. The rest doesn't make much sense still.

I think I have common sense but one that comes from conscientiousness and general sensitivity/awareness. Common sense doesn't require nowhere near as much logical intelligence (IQ) than it does emotional intelligence, which studies and research often attribute to a more practical, necessary and useful kind of intelligence.

I think I would owe my common sense to my tight Saturn conjunctions in Pisces: dutiful empathy, logical compassion, disciplined sensitivity. It's a very powerful combination of energies. Saturn tightly on Mercury especially makes me careful of what I say and how I say it. If I speak loosely and recklessly: then surely you have lost me with some offensive and begrudging remark/behavior. Never in a million years would anyone catch me making any derogatory comments about any demographic of people.

That is, however, one facet and type of common sense... Though in my opinion the most important one. It doesn't matter too much if it's common sense not to put a bag of chips in the freezer but it does matter extremely when you thrash someone's religion or downright insult a race/ethnicity openly on a public forum, knowing well there are people who belong to them and will take offense to it, par example.

I think I want to get more common sense myself. That is why I started this thread. I grew up in a house which was very intellectual and common sense was not really valued. My grandmother had amazing common sense, as I said. Maybe, it was the Virgo moon. Virgo seems to have good common sense. I am a cancer Moon. We feel. That is our main trait. It is not bad but I see I am not as practical as other Moons such as cappy, of whom are many of my friends, it seems.

I am drawn to Cappy because they seem very earthbound and grounded and that feels safe to me.

I think there is a relationship between common sense and a knowledge of universals, concepts, and ideas. What I mean by this is the following:

If I know that putting a bag of chips in the freezer is not a good idea, then I would logically deduce the same about crackers, popcorn, and dry foods of a similar nature.

If I know that it is common sense to use indicators while I am driving, then it would be common sense to use hazard lights when I'm illegally stopped in the middle of the road, not overtake someone knowing the space is too small, etc.

I think emotional common sense is more important. If I hate my beliefs dissed, then it is common sense that I shouldn't diss someone else's beliefs. If I hate to be ignored, then it is common sense that I don't ignore others.

In a sense, if you start with any particular rule, you could find a universal rule to which it belongs. I believe that the problem of common sense could come from people who are too caught up on particular happenings that they fail to deduce the universal.

All I can say is that perhaps a way to improve one's common sense would be to condition oneself to find the universal or overarching rule before reacting or passing a judgment or making a claim. To some people it comes naturally and quickly, to others it might require some thought or conscious process.

I do believe that book smarts don't necessarily imply common sense. Cappies are grounded and have that rational basis that endows them with the capacity to be very discerning which is why I like them so much but there are also times where their approach can be rigid. I think someone who is well balanced, has good amount of water, earth, air, and fire either by sign or by aspect generally speaks of someone who is well rounded and has a broad grip on common sense.

I lack the common sense to do things I know would benefit me. I'm a fire void and am not as health-conscious as I should be. I start working on important tasks last minute, I'm not as active as I should be... etc. I'm a fire void, though I have fire energy only by placement and aspect (Stellium including Mars in the 1st and Moon trine Mars). 2nd strongest sign is Aries (though I don't truly believe it). Then again... I'm not sure if that's a lack of common sense or mere laziness

Yes, good one, Randall.

I was just talking to my guitar teacher who has about 20 students. He says the young ones do not have common sense, so I was right in thinking there has been a loss through the generations

PS Not all young people, of course lol

Well, I am actually a Fire and Earth void. I don't have any personal planets in Earth, with Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn but they aspect only my MC by sextile. No planets whatsoever in Fire. I think my "Earthiness" would come from my super tight Sun-Mercury-Saturn conjunctions and Chiron oppositions to my Pisces stellium; which is why I think that, despite being an Earth void by sign, I'm not entirely an Earth void by manner. Though I still feel a lack there...

Fire void just feels absolutely "dull", at least to me. Kinda like not having enough drive or fervor to push me to get things done. I'm bad when it comes to motivation, exercise, or having enthusiastic spirit (like school and holiday spirit, patriotism etc.). With my 1st house stellium, it just sometimes feels like a ferrari running on an engine malfunction.

For example: if I had to meet up with friends for dinner at 7:30, I would start taking a shower at 7:25... I am not even kidding. No motive or energy. At times, there seems to be a dissonance between my appearance which seems vibrant, energetic, and fiery and my inner states which are more mellow, laid-back, and even solemn.

I hope this conveys the picture.

Ami Ann,
IMO the older generations are to blame for this. They have built a society that values a piece of paper over real world hands-on experience. When I think of common sense I think about people who have practical skills. You know the types of people who may not be able to have deep intellectual conversations but they can fix cars and build things they need. These people might be looked down upon by intellectual snobs who have PHDs but they are the types who can survive and thrive when sh*t hits the fan. My dad is like this, he is a jack of all trades. Furthermore he was able to make lots of money with the practical knowledge/skills that he had. It's shame that he wasted most of his time and money on drugs because he could have been really wealthy if he hadn't gone down the path that he did.

Eh...I'm not a Fire void, but...

I believe our birthdays are only a few days apart, PD? At least by day, anyway. Even with my Virgo Moon and Cappy Mars, I do exactly what you just described here, hahahahaha.

I don't mean to negate what you're saying about yourself at all, but I did find that very amusing.

Pisces Power, Activate!

Eta: I want to add here that the absurdity continues, as I'm married to a man with a Leo Sun, Sag Asc, Leo Venus, and Aqua Mars.

You can probably imagine how happy he is when it takes me a couple of hours to "get ready" (i.e. leave the house).

I'll expand further on all of that. The reason I say older people are the reason younger people lack common sense is because older people haven't really passed on their knowledge to younger people, they haven't been good teachers. They expect the schools to teach the younger generations everything they need to know. Which is really stupid because there are a million things you will never learn at school.

In other news, I think I have a reasonable amount of common sense (not to be confused with business sense, I might add).

My Virgo Moon in 2nd, and Cappy Mars in 6th (and also my natal Saturn trine Sun) absolutely refuse to allow me to take risks, and my Sun opposite Moon is actually helpful when it comes to allowing me to weigh the pros and cons of any major decision before taking action (maybe that's because they're in the 2H/8H opposition?).

However, I don't have as much social common sense. I blurt a lot, and generally can't be bothered to self-edit. Like at all. I'm quite blunt abut things that most people probably don't consider "polite conversation". (Aqua Mercury, anyone?) I'm learning that I don't care about that.

Then again, my opinions are never geared towards any particular religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation. So if people get offended by the fact that I express my preferences with blunt humor, well whatever. I swear a lot and I tend to mock yuppies, although I look a lot like one these days. Oh well.

My Taurus MC tends to make me much calmer here in the online world.
