IOW, is it easy to sink down in spirit, etc etc but hard to stay up?

Took me a while to figure out IOW, but it's (I often wonder - hoooooorah!).

I definitely think it's easier to sink down in spirit because the things that can demotivate us and make us feel bad are often visable, and serve as constant reminds when things are not going right. You don't neccessarily have to do a lot of thinking to interpret undesirable circumstances or misfortune.
However, when it comes to staying high in spirit that's more of a conscious effort, you have to constantly remind yourself of silver linings. Training your mind and reminding yourself to see good things.
With that said, like any task, the more you do it... The better you become at it. But, until you're relatively able, it's definitely easier to sink!!!!

Maybe I wasn't as clear with the explanation, but hope it made sense.

I think it's really easy to fall in a slump. You might be aware of it, you might not, but always there's that feeling of anxiety and guilt that you should be trying harder yet choosing not to. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom though in order to get up again.

I think staying positive is actually more difficult than "getting" positive. Most people can rise to a challenge if they are motivated enough, but once you reach your goals, it's easy to lose sight of why you're there, appreciate what you have, or you might be distracted by something else, or someone might be trying to pull you down. Or you achieve a level of success and stability only for boredom or complacency to set in and that's when those little temptations to go off the rails creep in.

I agree. I've trained my mind, somewhat through having "survived" several hardships.
When difficult things come along you can really get a sense of your true overall state of mind.
I'm more of a "it'll be OK", "we'll find a solution", "this sucks but I'll make it work out" kind of guy rather than, "I knew this would happen", "why me?" And that kind of thing.

Life is coming and time is not waiting.

I honestly believe they're equal.

It's just as easy to stay positive and just as hard to sink down once you've reached the happiest time in your life.

Which ever path you take is your choice.

We are human after all, we all experience highs and lows differently but still experience them nonetheless. What may seem easy to one person may be incredibly hard for the next. We're all individual persons, with our own seperate minds.

Gotta love subjectivity.

Can you imagine if we all thought, felt and just were the same?

It's easy to sink down, YES.
Because being down can feel so familiar & normal ..that one tends to mistrust anything different..believing it to be "unreal"!

My life got better when I started using positive affirmations, I tell myself every day, that I look good, I feel good and everything in my life is going well. by doing this every day when I wake up has improved everything.
