I can't find it now. It was an author's note in the short stories "Everything's Eventual".

King says what the reader means to him and that it is not about money or anything like that.

It is about touching the heart of his readers, who he calls "Constant Reader".

It made me cry.

Have you read these short stories, E?

I,only, like short stories by him. These are amazing.

One is about a picture that changes.

King mentions one of his little known books "Rose Madder, in which the picture changed.

It was one of my top favorite King books.

He said that it is all about telepathy, how well you reach the reader, now that I remember! In fact that is what I was thinking when reading that ThorsHammer post, it's not so much syntax and grammar as it is the intelligence behind the creation and whether or not you are able to reach your audience.

He also said that most writers have a person they direct their writings to and his was his wife. I was very impressed with that book. It was no surprise that he was a teacher before he was an author, that book taught me so much!

"On Writing" and I think it had a subtitle.
(Stephen King.)

It was beautiful.

books that changed my life. thours quiet desperation in life. ruminating desperation on the balcony interesting. quiet desperation is a hard thing to bear. i think it was quiet desperation as a child to handle violence and watch through their eyes. but coping skills grow with what you see and hear even if you can't feel. if you can't feel shut down and frozen with fear then you become no anchor.

kings eventual readers touching their hearts is something that makes a Nobel prize writer. I think about their minds and not about hearts.

What do you mean? I dont think you are understanding the spirit of the book. The overall message of the book is to be "seduced" by life and get back to the mindset of wonder and possibility we all had as children.

That was excellent!

I sat at the corner mart and listened to the whole thing.

You know they say his wife pulled the "Carrie" manuscript right out of the trash can or there might not have been a Stephen King in your local book store.
Watching this, I can believe it.

Reminds me of Ozzy in a way. (His wife, I should say.)

So glad you watched. There was another one in which he gave a speech. What a humble person, a true artist who does it for the love of the art. I am kind of overwhelmed that his is JUST what you would expect of him lol

Yeah, that was another of those straight to the heart of the matter ones he's so good at. Wanting you to want to know what comes next. Really that is indicative of the fact that he is a master at his craft.

I'm kinda thinking Star Signs and Gooberz. Also the Darkovers had a tremendous effect. Those Perns, especially Menolly and the Fire Lizards.

Gooberz has been insane.

Mostly because I realized there were actually people out there like me and I was no longer alone.

Kinda like the chicken and the egg though.

Some are precursors and one is advanced, but probably the benchmark was Highlights of Tarot with an application form.

Music and nature also. I was baptised at Yosemite Bible camp because of the singing, as a teenager that was really beautiful. Truly those two things take me there.

Bible really can't be too well emphasized, it is a spiritual guide and handbook too often overlooked due to orthodox saturation. It is kind of like the Great Pumpkin, something for everyone, you don't always appreciate it til you're older.

And sex, sex puts you right there too. But the greatest sex is a knowledge of God, I mean take a good look at Solomon. How many people have read that and said I want what he's having, eh ?

And what about Agatha Christie, oh good gravy, there's a vocabulary to aspire to.

Sorry Stephen, but I much prefer mom's to that stinkin jeckyl guy. As opposed to heckle, no doubt. Hehe

Have to say Nietzsche's Birth of Tragedy and The Genealogy of Morals. Sartre's The Wall, and Nausea. Camus' The Stranger. There's plenty more but these are off the top of my head that changed my life significantly within the past few years.
Another one who I'm reading for school is Heidegger (though I've only read essays *about* his works, Being and Time, and Time and Being). Gonna try to tackle him soon, I've heard his stuff is difficult to read.

And then there's that book of interviews about punk music which inspired me to take action in my life.. called 'Please Kill Me,' it's a super addictive fun read.
And Silence by John Cage.. something to keep going back to.
