SCIENCE

Asteroid 430 Hybris is a main belt asteroid discovered on December 18th, 1897 by Auguste Charlois. Taking just under four years to orbit the Sun, she spends around four to five months in each sign, orbit and retrograde dependent.

MYTHOLOGY

In Ancient Greece, Hybris was a pretty nasty Goddess, symbolising insolence, violence, outlandish behaviour and reckless pride. I really loved this excerpt from Hesoid’s Work and Days:-
“Listen to right and do not foster Violence (Hybris); for Hybris is bad for a poor man. Even the prosperous cannot easily bear its burden, but is weighed down under it when he has fallen into delusion. The better path is to go by on the other side towards justice; for Dike (Justice) beats Hybris (Outrage) when she comes at length to the end of the race. But only when he has suffered does the fool learns this.”

ASTROLOGY

To locate asteroid 430 Hybris in your natal chart, head over to serrenu.com or astro.com and input your birthdata, as Hybris is already a listed entity. Keep your orbs tight, within 1-2 degrees and your aspects major – conjunction, square, opposition, trine and quincunx.

Now Hybris is a very blatant influence and in your natal chart, indicates an area of negative ‘potential’, but do keep in mind please that nothing is absolute. Everyone has Hybris somewhere, and subsequent aspects mean little as everything is based on individual life evolution.

Hybris in the natal chart indicates where one can toss their sensible nature to the side and act completely out of character. It is an area where one could locate extreme bad manners, violent outbursts or tendencies, extreme arrogance, and ridiculous levels of pride. On a minor scale, it can indicate a stubborn stance regards personal opinion and also a hidden side that can be quite reckless. Rulership and house position will be most telling regards the actual emotive connection to Hybris – with aspects to Hybris indicating possible means of physical expression of the influence.

In transit, Hybris is a tinder box of potential, with not all of it being a negative. Obviously, the extreme potential is there and should be considered in your chart as a time to be aware and take more personal care. But on the positive side, it can be the arrogant snap needed to wake you up and get you motivated to move out of a demeaning situation.
On research, this asteroid is not overly active in the charts of serial killers but it is quite commonly found in the charts of cult leaders. Jim Jones experienced Hybris contra parallel Saturn, Luc Jouret square Pluto, David Koresh experienced Hybris conjunct Charybdis, oppose Pallas.

It was this horrendous news story that encouraged me to explore and find this asteroid in aspect. So I looked up a local tragedy. Martin Bryant, responsible for the shocking Port Arthur Massacre in 1986experiences no aspects to natal Hybris. However, on the date of the massacre, Hades oppose Hybris (he also experiences Sun conjunct Hades in the natal), Ceres was oppose the Hades/Hybris conjunction. Also, Astraea (decision/one way path/judgement) was conjunct Hybris, and sadly, the North Node was conjunct his natal Mars. There were numerous other asteroids, mostly retrograde, that can explore the depths of this individuals troubled soul but……

Possible Keywords:- violence, possible violence, violent tendencies, out of character behaviour, excessive pride, extreme arrogance, gaining enough pride to move on from a damaging situation, finally defending self, unable to change path due to personal belief, stubborn attitudes.

No you don't get out of life that easy

If we look at the greek gods as mythical representations of human character flaws we can see that polemos follows hybris everywhere....if we translate this into practical terms we get

war always follows reckless pride

having a strong hybris just means that you need to be more aware of your own pride or that your pride may cause fights.

I was thinking of the movie Anger Management *ing Adam Sandler, that is a lot about Hybris conjunct Nemesis Ascendant. Self Sabotage because of implosive temper. I think Richard Dreyfuss has essayed such a combination in his role in "What about Bob". Anger because of Pride + Self being an Enemy.

Hybris in Taurus @0d

Not sure what it could mean yet but perhaps Dawn lights up my Hybris and makes sure I am true to myself and keeps me honest so hybris does not permeate my life and get in my way of personal growth.

Here are additional interpretations of Hybris I found:

"Hybris = Expectation, glass-ceilings, limits—what one future-paces as their fate, their slot in life—and what can be expected of others; what others, parents, you see as “your fate;” conditioned limitations."

Well in your case based on your history of abuse I would think that hybris is what gives you the pride you needed to 'move on from a damaging situation.'

I don't know you well enough to know if you are too prideful but since it conjuncts mercury I suppose you can be intellectually arrogant MAYBE LOL, doesn't sound like you though...!

I know my ex has it conjunct mercury and he was not intellectually arrogant IMO but he was very reserved so maybe he kept his arrogance to himself but I doubt that.

He was very prideful though and if he made up his mind about something that was it, even if it was not a good decision, his pride would not let him go back on his decision. He has venus square Nessus-Ceres in cancer so I think he is prone to holding grudges and punishing you via silent treatment giving you the cold shoulder, not showing any emotion/affection.

You add Hybris conjunct Mercury and pride also can lead to cutting off communication with person he is angry with and wants to punish.

He is a real GOOD guy though, truly, that is just how he copes and protects himself and is so ingrained and an automatic mechanism in him that I dont think he can help it, deep down he doesn't mean any harm; I feel he is not fully aware of it in a sense that he copes this way.

My boyfriend has Hybris trine Moon 1 orb and I can tell you that that is so true! He acts very superior with his own rational and detached emotions, that everyone else who expresses a negative emotion is inferior and wrong, but I can see through that in a quick second and I know he feels harsh emotions he just suppresses them (moon in 12th).
