Hylonome: Hylonome was a beautiful female Centaur who committed suicide after her partner Cyllarus was killed in battle with the Lapithae. Naive, compassionate and sensative to criticism, she would seem to have issues with self-esteem, emotionality and wanting to be popular with everyone. She could signify someone who has difficulty standing alone or dealing with grief and loss; also one who tends to indentify themselves and base their emotional stability out of relationships with others. Otherwise, there is an interest in fashion and good hygiene. According to Philip Sedgwick her job is to bring an end to grief through whatever means will bring resolution.

I don't have it anyplace. It is a fascinating Asteroid, though.

Interesting, Ami.

I have it in exact conjunction to my Mercury, and it's about 9deg. from my Ascendant.

I actually have this conjunct my North Node. I'm definitely a bit naive in some respects, compassionate yes, and sensitive to criticism but the whole needing to be popular thing doesn't fit at all - I think it's because of my Aqua ascendant and south node, and having Uranus conjunct the MC. So yeah when people criticize me, it hurts me, but I don't turn around and try to change myself into what they want me to be or jump hoops trying to please them.

To a darker extent, and this just popped into my mind so I thought I would put it out there, but what about hard aspects between the two in synastry or a composite signifying someone who could potentially kill themselves over the loss of the other.

Pixie - I have this centaur prominent and I would never kill myself if the other died BUT I can tell you I often feel like "the one" is already dead and I'll never find him and I do experience grief through separation very deeply. A sense of loss is always hanging just around the corner.

I think there would have to be stronger stuff going on in the chart for someone to commit suicide...Hylonome may describe additional circumstances but would not be enough on it's own and even then it's more likely to be felt symbolically than acted out literally.

If it's strong in synastry or the composite then there could be issues around separation, I've also got a ven/plu conjunction and I haven't had any of them die on me yet but at times it has felt like they've died.

It sure is prominent in my chart compared to other asteroids. Makes me wonder with her friend Chiron and his aspects that I'm just doomed. Hylonome does have the massive grief and dying lover in common with me.

Seems my Hylonome is at 22 Can 10' in 8th house. It's About:
- weak Conjunct with Black Moon Lilith (24 Can 25') and Mnemosyne (24 Can 01')
- stronger Conjunct Lie (23 Can 23' - BMLilith-Mnemosyne-Lie is a hell of a stellium in itself)
- Opposition Lucifer (22 Cap 22')
- Trine Pholus (22 Pis 20')
- Sextile Utopia (22 Tau 53')
- Quincunx Ptah (20 Sag 53')
- Semisextile Mercury (21 Leo 50') and Angel (23 Leo 49').

I will admit, when I failed to win over one who I thought was "the one" a couple years ago, I was very close to ending it (and ironically an exact year earlier she had talked me out of another potential point of me exiting, I was several months out of work at that point)... but decided in the end, well, I overcame it. Not sure if it was more others' prayers for me or my burning desire for vengeance (never acted on) and to not have the perceived betrayal be their final "victory" over me. (Later on, I checked my chart in comparison to hers, long before I learned about minor asteroids or arabic parts or progressions, and it seems there may have been a high risk of it ending extremely badly had we gotten together, but that's a story for another time).

It's almost as if I nearly destroy myself for some form of romantic deception, not necessarily seductive, but definitely in the end forbidden fruit. This one for some reason I could have even seen myself marrying in the beginning. Common interests, intelligent discussions, that sort of thing. In the end before someone another guy we knew online got in (and is still in) the picture, it had deteriorated to her and I at each other throats. The incessant what-amounted-to-bragging for a few months afterwards did not help. I think I'm only civil to her in the very rare circumstances I encounter her due to the fact her cousin is one of my close friends. (Chalk that up to the Lie influence?) ... and this particular example isn't the only woman that's caused me no end of torment throughout the years. Just this particular example went very far.

I have mine 7 deg in Virgo house 4

Opposes my Venus
Trines Uranus

Hmm lets see...well I'm alive! lol
"Naive" I can be...but also I am not as naive as some people think.
I wouldn't say that I am sensitive to criticism. I mean no one likes to be criticized but I wouldn't say that I am more sensitive to it than the average person...If criticism is given to me in an advice/suggestion form I don't mind.
But if someone gives me nonconstructive criticism...like if they just want to diss me, I have to much of an ego. Like all I will be thinking is...wow this person is such a dumb @ssh0le that can't back up what they say...and most of the time I just let it roll off my shoulder.
But I do get really heated if someone judges me unfairly.

I've had some self esteem issues.(who hasn't) Especially in my late teens. I'm pretty healed today for the most part...
ohhh no I don't want to be popular WITH EVERYONE, cause some people just suck...some people I can't stand to be around. lol It can be fun to feel popular, but around 8th grade I stopped caring about popularity and just cared about being around people that I could stand, and be my self around...that's all that matters.
Fashion is fun.
And hygiene feels good!

I have mine in the 8th and it trines my ascendent, semisquares my sun and Sesquisquares my neptune.

What do you think it means to have it in the 8th?

Mindfulness is a therapeutic approach that is becoming increasingly more popular in the field of psychology. “Mindfulness training emphasizes focused attention to internal and external experiences in the present moment of time without judgment” (Fodor & Hooker, pg.75, 2008). Mindfulness requires that person looks at self and others from an angle that seeks understanding. When a person automatically judges self or other it is not seeking understanding but is seeking to be right and judgment of self and others leads to hate not to compassion, healing and liberation.

You are gifted as a healer and teacher of spiritual wisdom, with very special ability to perceive the deepest level of need. Your journey of self-healing becomes one of finding keys that may be shared with others, and you instinctively know how to connect at an emotional level and are very original and creative in inspiring faith in others ability to heal themselves.

I have it conj Asc off by about 10 minutes, but why on earth did she kill herself over some guy? Co-dependent it sounds like.

"According to Philip Sedgwick her job is to bring an end to grief through whatever means will bring resolution. "
---I can go along w.this.

It's in my 5th house at 23 Merc. Trining my Jup at 25 Libra. Gosh, doesn't sound a very happy asteroid to have in the house of creativity and fun!

I also just noticed that Nessu is at 15 Merc in my 4th house. Just 8 degrees away from Hylonome. Bad news?

^ Don't know much about asteroids but 8 deg is too wide imo....I'm looking at the asteroids on my asc in another thread and when they're clustered around a point in the chart they seem to tell a story. But i'm still flirting w.them haven't really dived in yet..
I like what ami did w.the asc thread, i'm seeing mine more clearly, just looking at those that conj asc within 1 deg orb.

^ I agree. I was hoping someone would say so. 8 degrees is too far away. And I don't need a pain-laden Nessus anyway. I'm mostly concerned about the "meanings" of the asteroids in one's chart. I can barely figure out what Nessus is doing in my 5th!!
