Astrologically, such a tale conjures mythic resonance to the story of Tantalus, an ancient Greek king who killed and dismembered his own young son, to serve as a delicacy in a banquet for the gods. Punished for his heinous crime by an eternity of being chained in Tartarus, the level of the Underworld reserved for the worst offenders, Tantalus was doomed to forever stand in a lake of pure water which receded whenever he stooped to quench his thirst, overhung with boughs of luscious fruit which lifted up and out of his reach when he tried to assuage his hunger. His story has come down to us as the word “tantalize,” meaning to tempt or torment with the sight of something that is unobtainable or always out of reach. Astrologically, it relates to hideous crimes, temptation and teasing, tantalization, and dismemberment

This blurb explains Tantulus, beautifully. I know a man with Tantulus conjunct his Venus and it fits.

Attracted to the unobtainable fits, esp. when taken with Venus sq Saturn/Pluto which also are factors for it. Except when they show interest then I lose interest and sometimes turn it into a power play. lol trick of the century. Thanks, Ami. I am trying to keep the orbs v.tight, tighter than what iQ recommends. What they say about asteroids confirming chart dynamics found in the basic natal rings true to me, so far. Can you believe I have Medea conj Sun in the 8th, ::biglaugh:: as if I need another play on Pluto energy. I really like the Mark Andrew Holmes site you posted, helps a lot.

I remember when I was woried when I discovered pandora conjunct my North Node, but than an astrologer said to me to follow my curiosity!

All asteroids have a good side, this may not be an exeption! It may have something to teach us!

Btw, mine biquintile mars and jupter, in the 4th in cap.

Tantalus conjuncts my Venus and your description rings true Ami. Venus trines Uranus also, so even though Im attracted to the unobtainable, I get apprehensive at the possibility of getting it because Im never sure if I want it permanently.

Tantalus at 16 Can 41'43" in mine.

It nearly semisquares my Sun, though the orb's a bit wide (nearly 1.5 degrees)

As far as other aspects in my chart:
Semisquares:
9769 Nautilus (1 Gem 41'15")

Semisextiles:
1260 Walhalla (16 Gem 3'50") - Norse afterlife
4017 Disneya (16 Gem 22'4") - Self-explanatory.
29643 Plucker (16 Gem 38'30") - Interesting set in Gemini there with Walhalla/Disneya/Plucker...
10961 Buysballot (16 Leo 40'20") - Possible caution about political office?

Sextiles:
42355 Typhon (16 Tau 48'5")
2228 Soyuz-Apollo (16 Tau 48'5") - I do have an interest in Astronomy and Space travel...
389 Industria (16 Vir 17'55")
1980 Tezcatlpoca (16 Vir 58'26")

Squares:
24 Themis (16 Ari 36'25" (Rx)) - Titan Goddess of Divine Law and Order, Divine Justice, and said to be one of the Oracles of Delphi. Typically represented as the statue of Justice if I'm not mistaken.
VENUS (16 Lib 14'1") - This explains a lot about me and relationships/relations with women.
24626 Astrowizard (16 Lib 56'1") - I did originally want to be an astronaut growing up lol... I don't think I meet the physical requirements though (Think I'd need a couple more inches heightwise).

Trines:
136 Austria (16 Sco 10'17")
16 Psyche (16 Sco 10'22") - Hmm... IQ, possible Thule society connection/infiltration in some way here?
4659 Roddenberry (16 Sco 18'26") - Well, I do like Star Trek...
2999 Dante (16 Sco 25'35") - I do also make passing references to Dante's Inferno among friends...
273 Atropos (16 Pis 13'9" (Rx)) - Very interesting... effectively a Psyche-Atropos-Tantalus grand trine. Per http://markandrewholmes.com/atropos.html : "Martha Lang-Wescott has linked Atropos to endings, completion, conditions at the finish, what is needed to conclude. Marianne Alexander has linked Atropos to repetitive action, such as oil drilling. Atropos, I believe, can also signify cutting off, termination, pounding, percussion, "beating one's head against the wall" or "keeping on plugging away" at something." Was also one of the three Fates, and had the shears that cut the thread of life for those whose time had run out.

Sesquiquadrate:
564 Dudu (1 Sag 56'16") - I do find myself sometimes in some... um, situations... No explanation necessary.

Quincunx:
11885 Summanus (16 Sag 3'47")
2266 Tchaikovsky (16 Sag 19'32") - Intriguing...
one calculation of the Arabic Part of Catastrophe (16 Aqu 14')
1896 Beer (16 Aqu 20'10" (Rx)) - That plus the part of Catastrophe would suggest I need to not drink much by themselves?
1588 Descamisada (16 Aqu 43'58" (Rx)) - From http://markandrewholmes.com/descamisada.html : "From this comes a number of possible meanings, not just union activity, heavy physical exertion, or hard work for low pay (the shirtless worker), but being cheated or taking a heavy loss, especially when losing a gamble("losing one's shirt"), impatience("keep your shirt on"), being flogged(which usually occurs when one is shirtless); sports in which male participants are normally stripped to the waist such boxing, swimming, and wrestling; and exotic dancing("topless")."

Opposition:
52975 Cyllarus (16 Cap 19'38" (Rx)) - According to http://markandrewholmes.com/cyllarus.html : "pride in oneself and one's own identity or background, possible racism, ethnocentrism, nativism, parochialism, egotism, or self-importance, ability to meet or assert one's needs, having motive, method and opportunity."
