If you are looking at an asteroid that has the same name as the person whose chart you're reading... but the asteroid doesn't really seem to have any specific or mythological meaning- it was simply named after someone or something... How do you read that?

I always read it as I would a planet, I see what house it lands in and look at any hard aspects formed and take it from there. I "presume" that the asteroid effects will be similar to what is shown by the house placement and aspects. The weight of the effects can never be known it seems...

If something has no specific meaning then I would use the meaning I attach to it but with caution.

Well, I dont know...

I'm looking at my own partners chart with transits for the day we met... the day we met my name asteroid transit conjunct his natal Eros exact and transit Eros conjuncted my name asteroid in his natal chart exact... I find that kinda surprising... especially since it was pretty much love at first sight for both of us and intimacy moved more quickly with this relationship than any other of my life...

I also found in his natal chart that my name asteroid conjuncts his Jupiter by less than a degree in the second house, opposes his Moon/vertex/Chion (all in the 8th, trines his Mars, squares his Vesta, widely conjuncts his Uranus in the 2nd house...

His second house is ruled by Scorpio and most of the planets were in Scorpio when we met as well: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Eros, Pax, Vesta...

Most of his personal planets are in his 2nd house (yes... money/ability to provide drives his self-esteem)...

The day we met Pax, Eros and Vesta were all conjunct less than a degree conjunct my name in his natal chart as well...

Well... I'm not totally sure what it's all about but it seems to aspect quite a bit...

Maybe another interesting thing is that this asteroid in my own chart in synastry fills his 6th house... and I am always pushing him and helping him with on subjects of the 6th house... in Aries... and I am very impatient with him...

I do understand what you're saying, I've had some downright freakishly weird "coincidences" with asteroids. They just seem to be very inconsistent. They are certainly extreme, they'll either play out EXACTLY or not at all. I wonder if they ultimately show us the choices that we have at any given time?

I think it's more that people get confused here about the actual 'place' of the asteroids in the grand scheme of things, especially when it comes to stuff like synastry. It's always about the actual luminaries and planets first and foremost. Those are most important, most powerful points in a chart and stuff like asteroids are just the optionals, or the icing.

A lot of times I've noticed though that people here will focus almost entirely on the asteroids at the expense of the actual, basic astrology placements. They'll plug in a bunch of asteroids into a synastry chart and go, "See? We're soulmates" and then totally ignore the actual planetary synastry, which says the total opposite, then they're confused when they eventually realize the other person is definitely not their soulmate.

Thank you both for your comments... very enlightening.

Yes, can't forget about the basics, but I think Asteroids can be attractive because they often have so much symbolism/mythological relation and some can be so specifically related to romantic relationships of sorts...
