Asteroid Echo—Screaming to Detach
By amiann | Published: March 28, 2012 The myth of Echo is of Echo languishing because Narcissus can’t see her. If you see fine art paintings of them, Echo is in some state of mourning as she cannot make the object of her desires validate her existence. If one extrapolates to modern times, one sees a person screaming to be seen. The soul of Echo seems to be lost if she cannot accomplish her goal. Narcissus’ validation seems to be a picture of Heaven, a glorious existence in which Echo will be free. However, how is she to get there when Narcissus is trapped with his head in a pool? The answer lies within Echo, as it always does. She must detach from Narcissus in such a way that she is not carrying him around as a grave cloth. Easier said than done, you say. Yes, it is so. The goal for Echo is to be whole on her own if she never finds another Narcissus as she will look.It is in her blood . Needing another person to define one is as much a personality disorder as any, in my humble opinion. Echo is the modern day co-dependent of whom so much is written. The gravity of this condition is minimized as the condition wreaks havoc on the life of the Echo. How does she break the spell if she was programmed this way by the chart, you may ask? It is not easy. She must face the situation,squarely. However, it must be faced with the heart and not the head. Head understanding helps little, if at all.One must feel Echo in the depths of one’s being.One must hear her voice and know her name. She will haunt one as long as one runs. Echo will run to her Narcissus as she is programmed as such. Only when one clearly sees the Echo in oneself, can one make a change. This is as true in all of life as it is in Astrology. ------------------

I can relate. It's about seeking validation from others, could be the one you desire or just people in general. Everyone can be guilty of being narcissus too though.IP: Logged |

I think everyone has some vanity within them though. I mean who doesn't look in the mirror, spray some cologne/perfume, etc.? Vanity is sometimes just wanting to look good, even if just in your eyes. Or look stylish. Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. It is just those who are overly obsessed...I have grown to not need validation from people. I think being as shy as I was till around 20, I was very comfortable by myself, not needing anyone else. It is almost a part of me, I figure. This has helped me to evolve quite a bit. But I mean, who does not want someone to cuddle with share intiamte moments with. For me, that is not validation, but a need that sometimes arises and can't always be ignored and/or is never 100% absent no matter how much I am fine with being a lone wolf. IP: Logged |

Yep--the thing about the asteroids is that SOME of them will be yours--only a small number. However, when you find yours, there you are lol

My boyfriend's echo is conjunct my ascendant. Which must be why I'm interested in her at the moment. I dunno what my personal asteroids are really, my Fortuna is conjunct my sun and so is Amor, but I don't get a gut feeling about them, not right now anyway.
I'd guess we're supposed to find a happy medium between the narcissus and echo archetypes.IP: Logged |

My daughter has those two asteroids conjunct I myself have it conjunct my IC 0*. Hmm.. I can definitely relate. I have searched for validation/appreciation from my family for as long as I lived. I do not feel I have ever gotten it, but I no longer feel like I need it as desperately either. Thank you for your post IP: Logged |

Thank you Lava. Fascinating that Echo is conjunct the IC.Man, that one placement can tell a whole story. I find that.Astrology is SO powerful that one aspect can tell you volumes. That is why I have so much respect for Astrology and don't like to water it down with political correctness until it says nothing. IP: Logged |

I am with you on that one! Funny how I got into astrology when my progressed MC was conjunct my natal sun My MC is in the 9th, my dream is to be an astrologer haha. Not sure how practical that is for me though. This is off topic, but in another article, you said something about Saturn being conjunct Ceres and how a mother would try and try to make the child happy, to no avail. Well, a very good friend of mine has that conjunction at 2* and you are dead on about that description. Funny, his mother is like everyone's dream mom, or perhaps especially to me. She is caring, understanding, loving and would honestly be his best friend if he would only give her a chance. So sad to have seen their relationship that way and always wonder WHY!? How can he not see how wonderful she is, how amazing her home cooked meals taste, how hard she tries.. So it was a huge AHA when I came across your article. Boy, is Saturn tough!! One guy has Saturn conj Eros conj the ASC. He is very promiscuous but it haunts him.It is like he is driven. That started me watching what Saturn touches. ------------------

Interesting. Bet he has gotten to know that Saturn quite well. Saturn is strong in my chart. He opposes my moon from the 6th 0* and conjunct my 7th house ruler Uranus 2* and is inconjunct my ASC. Pretty nice to everything else though, trines my Sun 1* and Mercury 0*. I have a lot of respect for Saturn. Expressing, or rather, getting to know my emotions has been the hardest lesson for me so far. I have yet to respond un-automatically to "how are you?" with "good" lol Glad to know there's a personal reward at the end IP: Logged |

Huh. Mine' 09*42' Libra. Juno's at 4*13; Saturn at 02*34'. They're all too wide for me, personally.Trine's my MC almost exactly, however, (9*52') which resonates more to me. I'm ALWAYS trying to seek validation through my career, especially through its ruler (3H in the Mercury). It's closest to Euterpe (11*29'), in my 2H. I'm not sure how that would express itself. I have noticed I do seek validation through my music (I'm a vocalist) and tend to emote very intensely whenever I'm performing. -A.
