CERES/DEMETER, JUNO/HERA, PALLAS/ATHENA, AND VESTA/HESTIA

This is a reference thread - we are attempting to collate useful posts from other threads on LL. All contributions welcomed. However, if you have questions related to anything you read here, could you please post those elsewhere.

The asteroids were all named after the female family of Jupiter. Ceres his sister, Juno his wife, Pallas Athena his daughter and Vesta another sister. Much of the feminine is left out of astrology aside from Venus and the Moon. The asteroids help add the feminine back into the astrological chart.

This website is great to learn about the different asteroids in certain signs.
http://www.alwaysastrology.com/asteroids.html

Preliminary information:
"These asteroids are placed at the four cardinal directions of the mandala. These correspond to the four "angles" of the astrological chart: the Ascendant and Descendant to the left and right along the horizon, and the MC (Medium Coeli or Midheaven) and IC (Imum Coeli or Lowest Heaven), at the top and bottom of the vertical meridian line. The basic symbolism of these four great goddesses is as follows:

Ceres, the archetypal Mother and the Goddess of Agriculture, gives birth to the world of physical form, bearing children and providing food for their survival. As the Mother archetype, she stands for the principle of unconditional love and nurturing support in both women and men. In the above mandala she is placed at the IC, the very bottom of the horoscope wheel, which in astrology is related to the foundation, the roots, and the family.

Pallas/Athene, the daughter of Zeus, is the Goddess of Wisdom who generates mental and artistic creations from her mind. Sprung from the head of her father, she represents the principle of creative intelligence. Her place in the mandala is at the MC, the "head" of the chart, the uppermost point, which symbolizes one’s ambitions and one’s visible, socially useful accomplishments.

Juno/Hera, was the wife of Zeus. As such, she is the Goddess of Marriage who fosters and sustains union with a partner. More generally, she symbolizes the principle of relatedness and commitment to another over time. In the mandala, she is placed at the Descendant, which in the horoscope wheel is the point that signifies reaching out from the Self to another in order to complete oneself in a one-to-one relationship.

Vesta/Hestia, was Zeus’s elder sister who never married. In mythology she became the protectress of the hearth and the sacred altar flame. The archetypal Temple Priestess, she is a virgin in the original sense of being whole and complete in oneself. In the system of goddess symbols, she represents the principle of spiritual focus and of devotion to following one’s calling. Placed in the mandala at the Ascendant, Vesta corresponds to the Self.

These asteroids represent the primary relationships of a woman’s life: that of mother, daughter, wife and sister. The fertile sexual energy of Venus is used by Ceres to birth children of the body, by Pallas to birth children of the mind, by Juno to build relationships with others, and by Vesta to deepen a relationship with the Self or with the Divine.

CERES

CERES in 1ST HOUSE CAPRICORN allows for steady accumulation of resources. Not many opportunities for windfall gains or lottos.

CERES IN CAPRICORN one feels nurtured when they are organized and in control. They help others learn how to succeed. They take great comfort in every achievement they make. They have learned to take responsibility, now they will teach this to others. When stressed they can be overly dependent on their status in an effort to make themselves feel better. Surprises turn their world upside down. Goal setting and working hard is more their thing. They try their best to get others to realize how beneficial this path is to meeting your goals. It is hard for them to accept themselves sometimes. They equate feeling loved with how well they perform in life.

JUNO BACKGROUND edit

Juno is the asteroid of the C-word: committed partnership.

Earlier than the classical period, Juno, or Hera in the Greek, was one of the tripartite Moon Goddesses who ruled quite alone. Her marriage to Jupiter, or the Greek Zeus, was the mythological record of her absorption into the victors’ theology. Small wonder that husband and wife are always fighting.

Where Vesta uses sexuality in a way that allows her to stay complete unto herself, Juno is after "Heiro gamos", or sacred marriage. Her placement shows more specifically than Venus’ does how one expresses the desire to be a significant other, no matter what the sexual orientation. A person with Juno in Capricorn would prefer a relatively conventional marriage; Juno in Scorpio would lead a person to place more importance on the sexual bond than on the legal aspect of union. Actual engagements and weddings and moving-in-togethers and divorces often correspond to Juno transits. Zip Dobyns finds that synastric connections of Juno make her clients think of marriage even when nothing else in the comparison would seem to indicate it.

Juno is the one among the four asteroid goddesses who represented steadfast loyalty to relationship-for-the-sake-of-relationship. It is she who offers the teaching for modern spouses trying to find ways to live as a unit without losing themselves in co-dependency. Like all the lunar deities, Juno had three facets: in this case, the maiden, the bride and the widow, which described the cyclical state of a committed union. In the myths, we see Juno and Jupiter separating for some reason, usually an infidelity of his; she goes into solitude or a wandering phase, then she bathes herself in the sacred spring, and goes right back into the relationship. This asteroid is about the natural rhythm there is in uniting with and separation from and reuniting with a mate.

It is possible to read Juno as being merely about bridal showers and couples counseling. But looking beneath this level, we find a more subtle perspective on committed partnership.

To understand the archaic inner face of Juno it may be necessary to dispense altogether with the modern term “wife”, and resurrect the ancient notion of a consort. Giving this asteroid both Scorpio and Libra rulership, George posits that Juno represents the concept of a union of intimate equals: the craving to fully merge with another human being in order to find the perfect balancing of masculine and feminine energies. On a secular level, this could be seen as the mutual respect and support a happily married couple would have for one another’s work, emotional well-being and creative projects, as well as their commitment to mutual pleasure in bed. On a spiritual level it could be seen as committed lovers in meditation, exploring the psychic sharing and the raising of the kundalini life-force that transpires in conscious sex, as practiced in Eastern tantric traditions. Ultimately, Juno’s goal is not the marriage itself but the ego transcendence the marriage can offer. Though pleasure may be part of it, this kind of coupling has more to do with religious ecstasy. The union becomes a means to get beyond the separateness of the self by joining forces with another at the deepest levels–the original meaning of the heirogamos –leading to healing and spiritual consummation.

The distorted expression of Juno stems from the skewed power relationships in the institution of marriage or its facsimile.

Infidelity and the anger it inspires, jealousy and possessiveness and sexual rivalry all are potentials of dark Juno. Where there is the kind of dependency in a relationship such as the traditional wife has upon her husband, or where one partner keeps a vow of monogamy that the other does not keep, the pathology of Juno may rear its head. Greek legend is full of stories of Hera wreaking havoc on the lives of Zeus’ lovers and their children.

People in whose charts Juno is strong have a special sensitivity to the double standard, and by extension, to the underdog in relationships where there is a power imbalance, as is the case with abused children.

As George points out, the distortions of the original goddess imagery are direct reflections of their cosmological dis-empowerment over the ages, now imprinted in the modern psyche. If the feminine power they embody is skewed, so has actual feminine power been skewed. The study of these asteroids, particularly their dark sides, resonates strongly with those searching for a way through confining cultural patterns. The primordial ideas they embody are alive within us, and it can feel like a soul-deep self-recognition to reconnect with them. Digging beneath the distorted images –seeing who Juno was before she became the jealous wife, for instance — we can find the archaic power buried there and let it out.

PALLAS ATHENA

Pallas Athena was the second asteroid discovered. Named after Jupiter's daughter, Pallas Athena is intelligent and cerebral. She is the weaver of patterns, linking ideas together. She is strategic command in both the warrior and the peaceful general. Cities are her domain. She has an interconnection with Libra because of her focus on ideas. Like Libra, she can see both sides. She is not blind justice… she is only just. She is creative and artistic. She is a survivor. She expects everyone to claim their personal power.

Where her influence falls is where you will find talents in the following areas. Jupiter's daughter carries influence over many things, such as the immune system, the arts, the father/daughter relationship, intuition, justice, wisdom, defense, horses and the kidneys.

With her spotlight on daddy's little girl, Pallas Athena will help determine how you interpret your relationship with your father, and in turn how you treat all males in general. On her negative side, Pallas Athena touches on conflict, legal battles, injustice and illnesses due to a weakened immune system.

Additional information:

"Pallas Athene is the civilizing asteroid.

She was for the Greeks the patroness of arts and healing, crafts and trades; a great warrior and strategist, who refused to be married. She was the one without a mother: Homer describes her as springing out of Zeus’s head full-blown, his favorite child. Astrologically she seems to be associated with politics and social causes.

It is a very particular type of intelligence that George sees in Pallas Athene. Not logical in the usual sense of the word, it is holistic and inventive: George associates it with whole-pattern recognition. What is noteworthy here is that we have a mental planet that is not mental in the masculine sense. It is a feminine type of mentation. And it is designed to be used in the outer world. What a concept: a distinctly feminine energy that is most at home in the career.

There is an androgynous quality to this asteroid, with humanistic camaraderie emphasized over sexuality. And the Greek stories surrounding Athena portray her as playing a pivotal role in the issue of gender-bending.

In the myth of the trial of Orestes, Athena was the tie-breaker who came down on the side of the hero who had killed his mother. Under the older blood law, matricide was the ultimate taboo. But Athena says, in essence, “Why not? The mother is not the true parent of the child. The father is.” This is an allegorical reference to the fact that around the time Aeschylus recorded the myth, the laws of mother-right were being foresworn in order to achieve some degree of leverage in the new patrilineal culture, from which we get one of the meanings of this asteroid: a woman’s ability to achieve success in a man’s world. At its most distorted, this figure represents selling out to the powers-that-be. Athena the goddess was impregnable behind the suit of armor she was born in, and Pallas Athene the asteroid can similarly denote the blocking of emotional vulnerabilities behind a psychological armor, in order to be free of the prejudice against them.

On the face of it, Pallas Athene can refer to the positive relationship a woman can have to an authority figure, as a professional woman might have with a mentor, or the daddy’s-little-girl type of bonding, with incestuous undertones, that is its shadow. She can be expressed positively as a pioneering career drive or, in her distorted guise, as the fear of success.

The other face of Pallas Athena can be uncovered by considering her origins before she became the protector of the State and apologist for the conquering order.

In the Perseus legend, Athena was pitted against Medusa, the hideous she-monster with snakes for hair. But George reminds us that stories from further back feature Medusa as a beautiful queen of the Gorgon Amazons (such tribes actually existed before the Hellenic invaders). The slaying of Medusa is again a reference to the sociohistorical shift that saw the end of female political power in its earlier form, and its incorporation into another system. The emblem featuring Medusa’s face which Pallas Athena wears in the center of her breastplate is a reference to this incorporation. In fact, Medusa is the crone aspect of the Pallas Athena archetype. When I read the asteroid this way, I see her heroism and courage in a very different light from the interpretations of Athena I learned in school. I see her valor deriving not from an identification with maleness, but from her amazonian origins: a feminine form of warrior spirit.

The placement of Pallas Athena in the natal chart indicates the best ways to use one’s holistic perception and intelligence. George has seen Pallas in Gemini, for instance, in the charts of speech therapists. This asteroid’s placement also gives clues as to how the native might respond to contemporary sex-role issues such as preference for male children, educational streaming, and the glass ceiling in the work place. It may be that the newly politicized issue of sexual harassment falls under this asteroid’s rulership. A person with Pallas Athene in Sagittarius would be particularly sensitive to the moral dimension of these issues and would address them with passion; the Libra placement would be more likely to approach them through reason and negotiation.

The idea that world leadership should be in the hands of women gets heard more and more frequently these days. Whether the 21st century prime ministers and presidents will be biological women, or men who have repudiated destroy-and-conquer methods, Pallas Athene may be our model for the new face of governance."

"In astrology, the asteroid Pallas represents applied intelligence: the intersection between intellect and action; the ability to apprehend cause-and-effect and karma. To the mind she grants intellectual rigor, impartiality, and the ability to employ the mind in the manifest world. To the field of action she grants ethics, strategy, and methodology. In her full splendor she is the fierce protector of truth, logic, freedom, and peace; when she is compromised, soon follow deception, violence, tyranny, and war.

As the go-between between thought and action, Pallas is an integral part of conscience: the capacity to translate into action what one knows to be true. Mercury without Pallas is an ineffectual intellectual without the capacity to apply his thought to real life. Mars without Pallas is a dumb brute.

Pallas rules wit and weapons, the art of war and the wisdom of nonviolence, the consensual anarchy of the market and the crushing centralized order of the gulag. Pallas brings illumination and clarity to the world of the mind and competence to the world of action.

Wisdom herself, the startling power of Pallas in the astrological chart is seldom looked-for but unmistakable once understood.

4 - VESTA

Devotion and dedication to beliefs, tantric sex and passion for ritual. Sex as spiritual transformation. Vesta is the second largest asteroid in our solar system and the fourth to be discovered. Vesta is a sister of Jupiter, the virgin goddess. Vesta is the keeper of the hearth. She is focus and dedication. She is mental clarity and self-respect.

Vesta brings out your purest potential and Essence into being. Vesta is organized and perfect. She has a talent for breaking things down into its components. She rules the metabolism and the upper intestine. She carries influence over locks and keys, sisters, security, investments, insurance, and inheritance. She is the epitome of the home and family, ritual, chastity and sexuality, and devotion.

Her negative aspects include insecurity, lack of focus, promiscuity, segregation, secret societies and family troubles. There may be a fear of sex or intimacy, as well as an invalidation of self. Denial can be a big aspect when she is negative.

Additional info:

VESTA Keywords and what it rules:
Commitment, devotion, digestive disorders, family, fear of intimacy, goodness, health, hearth, home, independence, inhibitions, insecurity, insurance, integration, organisation, promiscuity, purity, sacrifice, safety, secret societies, security, sexuality, sisters, truth, virginity, warmth, work

VESTA
Though it does have other meanings, Vesta’s role in the natal chart can be indicative of where and in what manner we may dedicate ourselves to a higher cause. It can point to those concepts, areas of life, and activities that inspire us to bring the sacred into our daily existence. Recall that there are two concepts of the Vestal Virgin: one describes a life choice of chastity in mind, spirit, and body, dedicated to the sacred; the other describes one who, as part of the duties of the priesthood, dedicates the sex act to the sacred. Both concepts are rooted in the idea of being capable of living and acting in such a way that one’s actions become a sacrament (one definition of which is, “a thing of mysterious and sacred significance,” and which derives from the Greek for ‘mystery’ by way of the Latin for ’sacred or hallowed,’ which evolved to the old French for ’solemn oath’).

So, if we see Vesta as signifying the sacred, and its placement and aspects as describing where and how we can access this, we have a specific prescription for the way in which we can, as individuals, act as a priestess or priest of the sacred in our own and others’ lives. The houses tell us where, and through what subjects and activities, this can manifest, while the sign suggests the ‘personality’ of Vesta, how it operates, and aspects to other bodies or points tie the Vesta energies to different facets of one’s being. Vesta also shows, in a sense, where and what makes us feel ‘at home,’ and gives us the nurturance specific to the security and comfort of hearth and home, and, even though definitions for our purposes will concentrate on the idea of the sacred, this should be kept in mind.

Vesta: Rulership, Sign and House in this chart
Remember that Vesta (keywords:devotion/service, workaholism and sister issues) was worshipped by the Greeks as the Goddess of the Hearth, the keeper of both the sacred fires, and the home fires. In Roman times, Vesta became associated with the chaste vestal virgins, solely devoted to keeping the temple fires burning, sublimating their natural and personal expression.
Because of this lineage, you may note some definite correspondences with the sign of Virgo. Additionally, others see resonances to the sign of Scorpio, through her varied sexual (possibly due to sublimation or confusion) and occult expressions. According to Demetra George and Douglas Block in the central work on the subject, Asteroid Goddesses, Vesta rules and impacts the following areas:

* personal integration or daily routines
* maintaining health and spiritual balance
* sexual expression, as well as "complexes"
* spiritual and devotional service
* spiritual scholarly pursuits
* one's work patterns
* one's sense of purpose or dharma
* groups that share a common purpose
* heritage, preservation & conservation
* safety & security

"Vesta is the asteroid whose archaic inner face is the least like her outer face.

She’s the one who lost most in the translation. In pre-Hellenic Greece, the priestesses of the Moon Goddess practiced sexual rites. They initiated temple pilgrims into the Mysteries that way. Virgins not in the sense of being literally chaste, but in the sense that they belonged to no one partner, they would ritually bathe themselves after these unions, symbolically re-virginating themselves. The pagan festivals so reviled by later churchmen had their origins in sacred rites where groups of vestals and their consorts coupled in the darkness of a sacred cave, without knowing who was partnering whom. The children resulting from these unions were thought to be divinely chosen. This seems to be the origin of the legend, later adopted so enthusiastically by the Christians, that certain Latin kings were born of virgin mothers or were the sons of a god.

As soon as patrilineality came about, these practices became highly disadvantageous to the ruling castes, since knowledge of paternity was essential to the passing on of land and title. The Romans instituted a literal chastity into the vestal rites, which was enforced under penalty of death by live burial. The Christian mythos that followed literalized this virginity business still further, by coming up with an image of an idealized mother who even gives birth without sex.

The inner archaic face of Vesta is that of a spirituality that sees sex as a means to channel the power of the Divine Feminine: a sexuality that is not used to get a mate, nor to get children, nor to achieve personal pleasure… but to practice a religious devotion. From the standpoint of conventional morality, this has got to be the most explosive of all the ideas spiritual feminism has to offer.

The vestals of the ancient world were also charged with keeping the fires lit which established the spiritual and secular center of each community. The Greek goddess Hestia stood for the unity and cohesion of the family and state, and governed hospitality and the notion of sanctuary. Modern astrologers have thus associated the asteroid Vesta with security systems, insurance and notary publics.

Vesta functions as the ability to center the self, to focus (the Latin word for hearth is focus), and to pull in the consciousness away from outside distractions into a state of undivided attention; Vesta in Virgo, for example, has a tremendous capacity to lose oneself in work. Vesta by transit can indicate the times when one needs to retreat from intimacy in order to recharge one’s batteries alone. Vesta in Aquarius would probably withdraw in front of the computer.

Vesta stands for the memory each of us can access through the collective unconscious of sacred sexuality, a very private use of second chakra energy that is emphatically not other-oriented. Vestal sex is Doing it for the Goddess. Because of the extreme suspicion, not to mention legal prosecution, that such impulses would elicit in the contemporary world, it follows that Vesta’s expression is especially prone to distortions. Relationship separations were part of the healthy functioning of the sacred harlots. But we don’t have a cultural framework to express this energy though, and if we don’t find a personal framework either, the vestal urge to withdraw manifests pathologically. Vesta’s shadow side is sexual repressiveness, fear, even frigidity and impotence, which George has found indicated especially when Vesta is afflicted by Mars. The more a given society debases sexuality, the more potential there is for individuals with strong Vestas to suffer–either by suppressing their own sexual longings, or acting them out but thinking them shameful. Superficial promiscuity is another symptom of denied Vesta, however: the fully conscious Vesta may seek multiple partners but never in a superficial way. Vesta is acutely discriminating. For her, sex that is merely ordinary is a blasphemy."

CERES IN SIGNS, HOUSES, AND ASPECTS:
Ceres in the Signs
The first asteroid discovered is by far the largest of the bunch. Ceres is an incredibly powerful archetype with a wide range of useful interpretations. In the personal horoscope Ceres shows how we take care of others, as well as how we take care of ourselves. Ceres is our Inner Mother, and is especially concerned about eating habits and the other ways that we physically grow our personal lives. Here's a brief look at Ceres in the twelve signs:

Ceres in Aries nurtures others by granting them independence and showing them how to be independent, strong, and action-oriented. Under stressful aspects, this combination can lead to a feeling of inadequacy or incompetence as a result of competition from a dominating parent or caretaker. Ceres in Aries can be fiercely protective of loved ones, and at times may also describe the single parent.

Ceres in Taurus nurtures others by providing them with the basic necessities of life, especially the tangible resources that bring a sense of stability. One's inner mother feels secure when financial benefits are plentiful. Under stressful aspects, Ceres here can feel overly dependent on possessions, or that one's self worth is based on how much one has. Ceres in Taurus nurtures self and others through the sense of touch.

Ceres in Gemini may nurture others or feel nurtured through communication, education, and travel. Talking things out makes one feel loved and accepted. Under stress, this placement may lead to problems with duality, mental confusion, or an over-emphasis on persuasion and intellectual superiority. Ceres in Gemini nurtures others by sharing important information, and through visits that enhance points of view.

Ceres is strongly placed in Cancer, and feels deep emotional bonds with family members, especially with the mother and/or children. Ceres here expresses itself in a kind and caring way, and provides loved ones with both emotional and physical support. Under stressful aspects this placement can lead to an overly sentimental or dependent relationships. Ceres in Cancer also nurtures others and self with food.

Ceres in Leo feels nurtured and nurtures others by expressing personal talents, creativity, and independence. The parent with Ceres in Leo takes care of the child by encouraging a sense of self-confidence. Under stressful aspects, this placement can lead to a feeling of inadequacy over one's creations, or what one takes pride in. Ceres in Leo feels nurtured when personal efforts are appreciated.

Ceres in Virgo is strongly placed, and fosters a sense of service to others, a love of work, and a feeling of competence. This placement leads to excellence in craftsmanship, but under stress can bring a perfectionist attitude. Parents may be overly critical, or one's inner parent may never be satisfied with the result. Work in the health services or food industry is common with this placement.

Ceres in Libra nurtures self and others by developing a cooperative attitude and a sense of sharing. One nurtures self by developing meaningful relationships, and the caretaker with this placement shows how to excel in social interactions. Under stress, Ceres in Libra may place too much importance on being accepted by others, and forget self-development. Ceres in Libra loves fine dining.

Ceres in Scorpio is exceptionally powerful placement, and nurtures others by imparting a sense of life's most significant passages and the importance of deep family bonds. Ceres here nurtures others or self through total transformation, a process that involves emotional self-control. Under stress, personal relationships may be plagued by jealousy, possessiveness, or resentment. Ceres in Scorpio may be a healer or facilitator.

Ceres in Sagittarius nurtures others by showing them how to explore their environment and expand their horizons. One nurtures oneself and others by finding a sense of personal direction; one encourages an optimism that creates success, and how to enjoy life as a journey. Under stress, this Ceres placement can lead to the feeling that life is meaningless or one has no moral compass.

Ceres in Capricorn nurtures others by showing them how to succeed in life. With this placement one feels nurtured by a sense of achievement. This is the wise mother placement, one who teaches others how to take responsibility for their own lives. Under stress it can lead to excessive dependence on position or status as a substitute for creating loving or caring relationships.

Ceres in Aquarius nurtures others by developing their sense of social justice and an acceptance of their own uniqueness. One feels nurtured when accepted by the group, or when participating in causes, or in activities shared by people with similar goals. Under stress Ceres here may feel disconnected from others, or that one is socially inept. This placement fosters a sense of personal freedom.

Ceres in Pisces nurtures others by imparting a sense of connectivity to a larger whole. One may feel nurtured by identifying with all of humanity, or some spiritual mission. Ceres in Pisces is extremely compassionate and concerned about the welfare of others. Under stress this placement can lead to feelings of abandonment or helplessness. Ceres in Pisces is the lover of the universe.”

Ceres and Parenting
One of the most important uses of Ceres is to time the birth of a child. Traditional astrology cites the Moon and the fifth house as significators for fertility and pregnancy, but Ceres works so much better. Try it and see. To whet your appeite, here are a few examples to show how Ceres works in action: David Letterman becomes a father, Angelina Jolie finds her path, and from the private case files, Sharon asks "When will I get pregnant?"

Ceres, lady of loving-kindness
Ceres symbolizes the fertility and abundance of the corn goddess, an aspect of the great Earth Mother. Ceres was the Roman deity; Demeter the earlier Greek goddess of grain and fertility in the classical tradition. With the new astronomical definitions of the various bodies in the solar system, Ceres the former asteroid is now considered to be a 'dwarf planet'. In astrology, the divine archetype Ceres bestows the blessing of loving-kindness. She distils her energy gently in the horoscope, and does not make a fuss.

Ceres helps you to see the world through kindly eyes, and to enjoy what is natural and simple and good. With her help, you grow in compassion for others, and gain in empathic understanding. She promotes generosity of spirit, and helps you to help other living beings: people, animals, and the natural world. Her position shows something about how you find ways to look after other people, and seek to bring out the best in them. Ceres nurtures and educates, in the best sense of those words. And on a larger worldly scale, she promotes the good of ordinary people, helps humankind to build democracy, and fosters respect and care for the environment as a whole. Her darker side tends to smother love and games involving manipulation or rejection. However, her more noble urge prompts everyone towards leading a good life, which facilitates the correction or elimination of such unattractive qualities.

Ceres in the Houses:
Ceres in the First House: People will always be mistaking you for their mother, even if you are a guy. That's because Ceres in the 1st house people just seem to be nurturing. This effect is lessened if Ceres is located more towards the end of the house, or in a different sign from the Ascendant. There can be a problem if you happen to have a lot of planets in Gemini, like a friend of mine. She would rather talk than nurture, but emotionally needy people gravitate towards her constantly.

Ceres in the Second House: If well aspected, your physical nurturing needs will always be provided. And you will tend to nurture others in the same way. And nothing makes you feel more nurtured than a large bank balance and a full refrigerator.

Ceres in the Third House: Nurturing could have been provided for you by brothers and sisters, or even neighbors. Conversely, you could have been the one nurturing them. Your words tend to be nurturing. This could be a good placement for a therapist or counselor.

Ceres in the Fourth House: Being home nurtures you, and there is a tendency to nurture anyone and everyone in your home. It's as simple as that. But you could also feel nurtured by the homes in general, so this is a good placement for dealing in domestic real estate.

Ceres in the Fifth House: The tendency with this placement is to feel nurtured by fun, sports, games, romance, children, gambling and speculation, you name it. Any form of excitement will do. There will likely be a need to feel nurtured by romantic partners, and, conversely, to nurture them. Be careful, though, about getting a nurturing feeling through gambling.

Ceres in the Sixth House: Work could easily give you that nurturing feeling. People with this placement would either tend to nurture co-workers or feel nurtured by them. This placement can also feel nurtured by doctors and other health care workers.

Ceres in the Seventh House: This placement would either tend to nurture partners (both marital and business) or attract partners who nurture them. Strive for a balance if you have this one, otherwise either you or they will be doing all the work, and that could eventually cause resentment.

Ceres in the Eighth House: You poor thing. You need sex to feel nurtured. Oh well, we each have our cross to bear. Carry on (and I'm sure you will). Actually, you might also nurture your partner with this one. The 8th house also rules other things besides sex. This placement is also good for nurturing people who are undergoing a process of rehabilitation. Demetra George points out in her excellent book Asteroid Goddesses that Ceres in the 8th house might also be found in the horoscopes of those who work in a hospice providing nurturing to those who are dying.

Ceres in the Ninth House: You would tend to feel nurtured by taking long trips, either physically or mentally. Travel will do it, but so could study and discussion of religious or philosophical matters.

Ceres in the Tenth House: Well, this placement can make you popular (even if you don't want to be). As soon as you set foot in public, people will start coming to you for nurturing. Not in private, thankfully. At least you will be safe in private. Even the boss could come to you for this (or you might have a tendency to nurture the boss). Conversely, you could tend to attract bosses who like to nurture you (hopefully with constant raises). You could also be attracted to careers ruled by Ceres, namely anything connected with food or clothing.

Ceres in the Eleventh House: The tendency here is to nurture your friends or attract friends who nurture you. Since the 11th house also rules your hopes and wishes, you could easily have a wish to nurture large groups of people, perhaps by joining (or founding) a humanitarian group of some sort.

Ceres in the Twelfth House: This is the house of hidden things, psychological problems and "restrictions." Whatever is in this house shows what we don't want to show to the world, or even to ourselves. Ceres in the 12th house can show that nurturing needs were suppressed. This could also make it difficult to nurture others. On the positive side, this placement could channel these frustrations into charity work where you provide nurturing to the poor, the sick, and the unfortunate.

Aspects to Ceres:

Ceres Aspects the Sun: Nurturing will tend to be part of your character. With the harmonious aspects (conjunction, sextile and trine) the effects are smooth and easy. You probably had a nurturing father, and the nurturing you received was compatible with who you are (the Sun). The stressful aspects (square and opposition) show problems. The opposition could mean that you tend to nurture others, but not yourself. Conversely, it might be an indicator of someone who always expects others to nurture them. The square means that the early nurturing you received (especially from the father) was not compatible with the type of person you are, or that you tend to be suspicious, or even reject the nurturing that you really need. For example, suppose the Sun is in Aries and Ceres is in Cancer. This person needs lots of soft, emotional nurturing, but that is not in accord with the self-sufficient image that Aries has of itself, so the needed nurturing is rejected.

Ceres Aspects the Moon: The harmonious aspects (conjunction, sextile, and trine) are really easy to deal with here. One's emotional needs and nurturing requirements are compatible and work well together. The nurturing received from the mother tended to be favorable. There will probably be an instinctive need (the Moon) to nurture others. The stressful aspects (square and opposition) are indicators that the early nurturing from the mother was not compatible with your emotional needs. With the opposition, there is usually some issue with "others" over nurturing. Perhaps someone with the Moon opposite Ceres will concentrate on nurturing others in order to avoid their own emotional needs. It could work in the other direction as well, with the person always searching for (even demanding) constant nurturing from someone else, demands that can never be satisfied by any amount of nurturing because there is an emotional void that never seems to be filled. The square means that the nurturing the mother gave was not right for your emotional needs. For instance, if the Moon is in Leo and Ceres is in Taurus, you would tend to have an emotional need for attention and respect while all you got was lots of food and clothing.

Ceres Aspects Mercury: This is a nice aspect for a therapist to have because you can nurture others with your words. It is also good for a salesperson or someone who writes advertising copy for the same reason. The stressful aspects indicate that the words you heard as a child were not very nurturing. Be careful that you don't do the same to your own children.

Ceres Aspects Venus: Oh for a lover with the harmonious aspects (conjunction, sextile, or trine) between Venus and Ceres! The ability to express love and affection and the nurturing nature are in harmony. They can love you and feed you at the same time. These people will tend to be nurtured by beauty and beautiful things, as well as by pleasant social gatherings. The stressful aspects (square and opposition) indicate that what you need to feel happy and your nurturing needs are out of alignment. Perhaps the clothes you were given as a child made you feel ugly. There will tend to be nurturing issues with partners and lovers. With the stressful aspects, you could constantly attract partners and lovers who always seem to require nurturing from you. Conversely, the nurturing you get from them never seems to be right. As always with the stressful aspects, do not look upon this as some terrible fate, but rather as a problem that needs to be solved or as an obstacle that needs to be overcome.

Ceres Aspects Mars: Energy, action, and nurturing combined. This person feels nurtured through physical action, adventure, and even combat. When it comes to nurturing others, they can dive right in and nurture you whether you want them to or not. The stressful aspects (square, opposition, and, here, the conjunction as well) are an indicator that the early nurturing tended to be in conflict with the need for assertion. The parents could have withheld nurturing when the child was in an angry mood, causing the anger to be repressed. Conversely, at least one parent could have expressed anger at the child's nurturing needs, affecting the child's sense of self-worth. Adults with the stressful Mars/Ceres aspects may get angry when asked to nurture others. They may even get angry when they have to nurture themselves!

Ceres Aspects Jupiter: Jupiter expands whatever it touches. At least there will tend to be plenty of early nurturing, whether the kid wanted it or not. Even in a poor family, where there is little to go around, this will be the child that gets more of the goodies. The nurturing given will also tend to be excessive. The stressful aspects (square and opposition) could be an indicator of much too much early nurturing, and generally not the kind the child wants or needs (especially with the square). For instance, if Ceres is in Libra (feeling nurtured by beauty) and Jupiter is making a square from Capricorn, the child could feel suffocated by getting excessive nurturing of the "practical" kind (ugly, but practical clothing for example). As an adult, they could nurture others in the same excessive, uncaring way and never be aware of what they are doing. Jupiter under stress aspects shows where we never listen because we think that (in that area) we "understand" everything already. If the rest of the chart agrees, Ceres/Jupiter aspects could be an indicator of someone who joins (or starts) organizations to fight for the rights of the underdog to be nurtured. If the aspect is a stressful one, they will nurture those poor underdogs whether they want it or not.

Ceres Aspects Saturn: Saturn organizes and restricts. With the harmonious aspects (sextile and trine) between Ceres and Saturn, the early nurturing received will be adequate, efficient, and well organized. As an adult, this person will tend to nurture in the same way. The stressful aspects (square, opposition, and, here, the conjunction) tend to diminish the early nurturing. Many with this combination will say, "What early nurturing?" Even in a wealthy family where there was plenty of everything, those with this combination usually get the short end of the stick. As adults, they could also withhold nurturing from others, regarding it as too "sentimental" or "impractical." If you come across anyone like this, tell them that it is really impractical to be miserable.

Ceres Aspects Uranus: Stressful aspects between Ceres and Uranus indicate that the early nurturing was erratic. Like stressful aspects between the Moon and Uranus, this could cause contact difficulties as an adult. When these people feel a need for nurturing, they could simply run. What is happening is that, as an infant, the unstable nurturing caused panic (if I don't get nurtured, I'll die). The panic is frequently dealt with by denial (I don't need them). Sure, the child survives, but when they grow up and start dating, they eventually meet someone that they start feeling close to. At that point, up comes the emotion-laden thought, "If they find out I need them, they're going to leave me and I'll die!" Solution: leave first. Except Uranus doesn't just leave. It ejects. People with stressful Ceres/Uranus aspects are more likely to get romantically involved with unstable types who are incapable of providing nurturing. Then they go to an astrologer and complain that they can never find a good person, and when are they ever going to meet their soul mate. At that point, the best thing to do is tell them that if they were to meet a soul mate, they would probably mess that relationship up too. The instability is a diversion. Their real goal is to avoid and ignore their own nurturing needs and the childhood panic they felt by not having those needs met. Once this is recognized, steps can be taken to break this self-destructive pattern.

Ceres Aspects Neptune: If you have this combination, you can feel nurtured by your imagination. When it comes to nurturing others, you will tend to add a note of fantasy. Parents with this one can play imaginary games with their children.
Watch out for the stressful aspects (conjunction, square, and opposition). Neptune is the planet of sympathy, and, when Ceres is in stressful aspect, it could indicate a tendency to try to "nurture" people who are constantly draining you, like the alcoholic who is always falling off the wagon and needs you to pick them up "just one more time." It could easily work out the other way as well. The person with Ceres in stress aspect with Neptune could be the one who is "needy" and constantly drains everyone around them, until those people get fed up and leave. Then, they search for another sympathetic soul to con into providing "nurturing" and the cycle repeats.
The irony is that no amount of nurturing will ever feel satisfactory because the Ceres/Neptune stress aspect means that, deep down inside, there is a feeling that the nurturing is undeserved. Neptune is also the planet of escape. The stressful aspects could also indicate a tendency to feel nurtured (or avoid the pain of not feeling nurtured) through alcohol or drug abuse. Needless to say, in cases like these, therapy is a necessity. The positive side of Ceres/Neptune can be very loving and giving. There is real feeling behind the nurturing, and people will notice it. A good outlet would be doing volunteer charity work with a Ceres quality, such as working to collect food or clothing for the poor and needy.

Ceres Aspects Pluto: The stressful aspects (conjunction, square, and opposition) can indicate what I call negotiation nurturing. It goes something like this. "You want some nurturing? OK, first you have to do this for me. You want some more nurturing? Then you will have to do that for me." In other words, the nurturing is not given freely. There is frequently a power struggle. A negative Ceres/Neptune (see above) will drain or be drained. A negative Ceres/Pluto, by contrast, will coerce or be coerced. On the positive side, a Ceres/Pluto person can nurture others back to health even if (especially if!) they are at death's door. They can transform others through nurturing. On the negative side, they may never want to let go (remember the myth of Persephone).

Ceres Aspects the Ascendant: If Ceres makes any aspect to your Ascendant, people will come to you for "nurturing" whether you want them to or not. This is especially true of the conjunction. The harmonious aspects (sextile and trine) generally do not cause problems here. Neither do the conjunction and opposition, for that matter. Nurturing can be both given and taken smoothly. The square aspect is the real problem. There will tend to be battles with partners over who is giving and who is getting more nurturing. Remember that an opposition to the Ascendant is a conjunction to the Descendant. Someone with that aspect could make nurturing the centerpiece of their partnerships. On the positive side, that means they just like to nurture partners. On the negative side, it could indicate that are neglecting nurturing themselves, or that they attract partners who drain them.

Ceres Aspects the Mid-Heaven: This could indicate a career that is ruled by Ceres: professional chef or other jobs connected with food, work in the clothing industry, or any sort of activity where nurturing is done. The only aspect that may be a problem here is the square, which could indicate that the parents disagreed over the best way to nurture you.” www.bobmarksastrologer.com/Cere....html

CERS Continued

Ceres through the Signs and Houses

Think of the key words for each Zodiac sign and house, then, do the same for Ceres, and we will have a good idea as to how Ceres may manifest itself in the signs and houses. Ceres projects nurturing, love, mothering, parenting, grief, despair, depression, love and care of the homeland, the earth, agriculture, gardening foodstuff, nutrition, the Initiation process through childbirth, death, dying and resurrection, and the mysteries behind the hidden veil.

Aries or 1st House
Ceres will be an obvious part of the personality, initiating and promoting self nurturance and caring for others. Independent, assertive, self starter, action orientated, physical activity, the grief work of Ceres may be connected to the self, through health, appearance, personality, or projection to partner could occur, or may attract a challenging partner or relationship.

Taurus or 2nd House
Ceres here will find nurturance in owning possessions, giving comfort to others by touch, massage, food, gardening, agriculture, horticulture, farming, crop circles researchers, environmental issues, stability, sharing artistic, musical and nurturing talents. They will enjoy a day at the spa, and/or with a beautician. Loss and grief work connected to possessions, values, self worth, loss of earning ability, addiction to food and other eating disorders. This placement needs to learn relax and have some fun.

Gemini or 3rd House

They like to communicate to others and public relations may be their niche, at least in the local community. Possibly educators or those who like to be educated. They need to feel competent when communicating with others. Short distance travel, cab and bus drivers, postman, real estate agents. They may help others by working with their hands, the local mechanic, painter, musician or secretary. This placement may also have the responsibility of caring for their siblings; they could be the local neighborhood babysitter, and enjoy nurturing others in their community. Grief work may include siblings, painful communication, lack of education, trouble with transportation and accidents.

Cancer or 4th House
The home and /or family will be important to these people. They are sentimental and emotional finding nurturance in their own home, caring and cooking for others, performing domestic activities. They may care for others' in their home, or become home care workers, midwifes, and be highly conscious of parenting. Grief work will involve the home, early childhood, the mother or father, mood disorders, and genetic family karma; sometimes a medical condition.

Leo or 5th House
Here, Ceres will love to generously nurture their loved ones and children, by finding ways to be creative, have fun, and enjoy sports and hobbies. They can teach others how to find the inner muse and creative spark! This would be a great placement for a children's art teacher or writer…Harry Potter maybe? They will feel nurtured by receiving attention and extra special loving gestures from those who care about them. They will enjoy traveling in style and comfort. Their grief issues may come from failed investment strategies, too much gambling, money shared with their friends, partners, conflicting values, love affairs and rebellious teenagers. There could be a custody battle over children or child support. This may be where the story of Ceres, Persephone and Pluto began.

Virgo or 6th House
Serving others is what Ceres likes to do here…and they enjoy working. You will nurture your co-workers or your company may nature you. Libra or 7th House
Ceres loves to give and care for others with this placement in relationships, partnerships and public relations work. But needs to watch that giving is not ‘over the top' so to speak. Relationships don't work well if only one partner is rowing the boat. Resentments and a co-dependant relationship could develop. Here, Ceres' is looking for pleasant, loving, harmonious relationships. The mother may have, in fact, modeled this through the family dynamics. This is a good placement for those who work with the public as there is a genuine interest in nurturing others in a diplomatic and graceful way. Grief issues could include loss of partner or business, disharmony, extreme dislike of rude manners or language, a power struggle for identity.

Scorpio or 8th House
Ceres here may be nurtured by the stability of the mother-child bonding relationship as well as other meaningful close encounters, especially powerful emotional or sexual encounters. The partner's money and investment income, responsible decision making regarding financial well being. Inheritance, contribution to environmental issues, recycling, investigating hidden information, and the mysteries of life and death. Nurturing received through a healthily sexual relationship. Working with the dying, hospice and chaplaincy work, doctors, childbirth and midwifery.

Grief work with money, inheritance, (especially with siblings), loss or death of those we love and care for, child maintenance, alimony payments, divorce, sexual dysfunction, power struggles, obsessive behavior.

Sagittarius or 9th House
A love of adventure, the outdoors and concern for the environment and our animal kingdom. Ceres here may take on a project such as feeding the hungry, involvement in social issues, ‘saving the whales or polar bears' Persons on a missionary path, spiritual guru's and teachers, healers working or volunteering for the social order. (E.g. Mother Teresa, Princess Dianna)Nurturing will come through teaching or preaching about humanity's evolutionally path in terms of our environment, diverse cultures and religious traditions, as well as the love of travel. These people may feel nurtured by acquiring knowledge and wisdom and teach others how to explore their inner and outer worlds, developing their own philosophy and spirituality. Grief work may come through the realization that all cannot be saved. Issues may include frustration and acceptance of foreign countries, cultures, traditions and religions, our sick and starving populations, the animals at risk due to mans aggressive nature and the challenging weather patterns.

Capricorn or 10th House
In order to feel secure and nurtured, persons with this placement need to feel in control, organized, and know where they are going, they don't like surprises. We can count on them to make responsible choices and decisions. Ceres in the 10 th will want to help organize, and teach you the process of goal setting and help you understand that success comes from discipline and perseverance. No get rich quick schemes here! They may be a bit too controlling too! One of your parents or a mentor embodied this energy and encouraged your career path. This placement will want to help maintain the ‘status quo ‘at a leadership position, while developing systems which define responsibly, structure, organization and focus to reach a common goal. This can be the placement for a politician or high official that is able to reach the masses with the message of care and respect for whatever their mission is. Remember, Ceres rules our agriculture, farmland, crop circles (Maybe that is her speaking to us through the ground or from the sky!).

This position will be concerned about the health and welfare of the country, our values, and government polices in reference to‘re- building our new earth'; a Plutonic energy must also be involved for the regeneration and rebirth process. Because it is the 10 th house and therefore the zenith position, it is closer to the heavens suggesting concern for the air we breathe, and atmospheric conditions. Grief work may involve caring for an elderly parents, conflict and/or caring for your boss, co-workers, your career choices, the state of your country, government, the health care systems, environment.

Aquarius or the 11th House
From an esoteric viewpoint this is the house of the ‘world server', therefore you may have a mission to help the masses in a humanitarian way. Persons with this placement love the world and look at our global community as all are friends, bothers, or sisters. There are no boarders. Remember the song by John Lennon, ‘Imagine ‘Imagine all the people loving everyone….

We care and nurture our friends and are nurtured by them as well. All 12 step groups embody this archetype, the challenge loss, and then returning to a state of well being, while friends in the support group nurture and care for you. In addition, this placement would most likely include single parenting groups, adoption, foster parents, orphanages, or those who work in community group homes for disadvantaged children and youth. Ceres here may rebel against the social structure and want to see change, bringing in new innovative ideas, inventions, and to work to bring about positive change for our future. They can be activists and will let their ideas be known through the use the written word, newspapers, public speaking and books. Grief issues involves friend, groups, and rebelliousness, the rebel without a cause syndrome, adoption issues and our global community.

Pisces or the 12th House
When Ceres is in the 12 th house you will want to help the disadvantaged through charitable organizations, volunteering, fund raising, and working in large institutions or behind the scenes. Psychological and karmic issues regarding the mother, and/or your family of origin may be repressed and need healing. You may nurture yourself by spending time alone, enjoying a day at the spa, or creating your own spa atmosphere at home. Spending time by the water will be calming for you, sailing, spiritual retreats, and quiet moments alone are important to your well being. This is also the house of fantasy and imagination, therefore artistic inspiration and poety may flow through you. Dreams of how you wish you were nurtured, or how you would like to see the world. This is a good placement for nurses or those in the caring fields, where you care for and may even quietly support those in need. Addiction counselors, recovery houses, and organizations such as the Salvation Army would be a good example of Ceres in the 12 th house. Psychological imbalance and grief are experienced due to lack of love, choosing partners that are not able to nurture and care for us, inability to have children, illness of self, addiction issues, parents, siblings, spouse, and insufficient nurturing in your formative childhood years. www.dawnastrology.com/Ceres.htm

Ceres Aspects

Ceres conjunct Pallas Athene
You provide nurturance primarily through fostering intellect, creativity and social awareness. You encourage education and development of the intellect and artistic sensibilities through many means. You teach self-esteem through self-discipline and competence. You value independence and a discerning intellect and make every effort to develop those qualities in your children, students or protgs.

Ceres opposed Pallas Athene
You might feel that your intellectual development and independence are at the expense of a supportive and nurturing relationship, probably with your mother. Or conversely, you may be in the mothering role and find it very difficult to support independence in your children, especially when their education involves separation from you. It is important to create a life that can include both nurturance and intellectual independence. If you can accept the experience of loss and letting go, the reward will be a returning on a deeper, more mature level.

Ceres trine or sextile Pallas Athene
You are quite able to give nurturance and emotional bonding while supporting intellectual development and independence. You gain pleasure from watching your offspring learn discernment and develop social awareness. You can accept experiences of separation for the sake of their personal and professional excellence. You teach and support the highest standards of personal and intellectual quality.

Ceres square Pallas Athene
You find the nurturing bonds in your life are at odds with the development of intellectual independence and social awareness. You might have a mother who tends to hold you back by holding on and not fostering freedom of thought and independent decisions. Pursuing an education or a career could be complicated or even prevented by parental opposition, and some very difficult choices may be required. Avoid seeing the situation in either/or terms and try to make room both for warm, emotional and nurturing bonds and intellectual and professional excellence. In doing so, you will not only enable your own integration, but also become a model for others.

Ceres quintile Pallas Athene
You would be an excellent teacher or educational counselor. You have an exceptional ability to nurture intellectual independence, artistic sensibility and social awareness. You support and further education and career in ways that are creative, exciting and original, and you can become a role model for both parents and educators.

Ceres septile Pallas Athene
You may feel that you have a mission to fulfill as a nurturer of social activism and an upholder of justice. Your decisions seem guided by an invisible hand, and you are probably aware of divine intervention in shaping your educational and career choices. Your social cause may cast you in a role of nurturing those in need. You champion the underdog or the disempowered segment of society.

Ceres quincunx Pallas Athene
There seems to be a paradox or a riddle involved in your deep, emotionally nurturing relationships and pursuit of intellectual independence and professional advancement. At the simplest level, home and career might seem to have little connection or compatibility. Both are important to you, and you most likely exert considerable effort to bring them into relationship, but your efforts seem to produce only temporary results, and many adjustments must be made. You probably find this situation frustrating, but the effort involved will heighten your self-awareness and personal growth.

Ceres conjunct Juno
You want a traditional marriage relationship, and are prepared to form a deep, lasting bond. Unconditional love is your ideal, and you are deeply devoted and committed. You seek harmony and balance, and make every possible effort to have mutually nurturing interactions. As a parent, you may wish for your children to marry well, and make you a proud grandparent. Try not to impose your will, but give them freedom to find their own path of fulfillment.

Ceres opposed Juno
You may experience some challenges in balancing relationships with parents and lover or spouse. Possibly your parents expect you to have a traditional marriage relationship, and/or disapprove of your choice of partner. Or perhaps you or your partner are overly attached to one or both parents, creating tension in the relationship. It is very important to find a working balance in order to have a harmonious and fulfilling primary relationship.

Ceres trine or sextile Juno
Marriage and relationship are a source of great comfort and support in your life. You find it relatively easy to establish a deep, mutually nurturing marriage relationship, in which honoring differences and balancing needs happens in a natural flow. Your parents are probably supportive of your marriage choice.

Ceres square Juno
You may experience deep conflicts regarding relationship choices. Possibly your parents, or your partners parents, are strongly opposed to your partnership, and this can create a lot of tension. Or maybe you and your partner dont agree on the type of relationship you want, and find it difficult to achieve a balance that is mutually satisfactory. One may desire a traditional relationship while the other is unwilling to commit; or one of you may be unable or unwilling to accept and allow equality and mutual honoring. You face some difficult choices, but the process of working through these issues can ultimately make you, and hopefully your relationship, stronger.

Ceres quintile Juno
You have a gift for combining marriage and parenting in a most creative, original and exciting way. You understand intuitively how to balance nurturing, mutual respect and personal growth. You can foster independence without compromising security and support. You could be an excellent relationship counselor or role model for creating satisfying and enriching family dynamics.

Ceres septile Juno
There is an element of destiny in your relationship choice. You feel a divine imperative to commit to a mutually nurturing and harmoniously balanced partnership. You probably feel guided to the right partner, or otherwise feel the intervention of Spirit in establishing the connection that is right for you. Once committed, no amount of difficulty will dissuade you from your choice. There is likely an element of karma or previous connection between you and your partner.

Ceres quincunx Juno
There is a challenging dynamic in your life between the need for unconditional, mutually nurturing love and a traditional, socially acceptable marriage. You may find that your parents and your partner have little in common, or you might choose a primary relationship that is simply not acknowledged and honored by your family and support system. You make great effort to establish a connection and harmonious balance, but it seems to have no lasting impact. Many adjustments are required of you, but the effort will be very creative and will stimulate considerable personal growth.

Ceres conjunct Vesta
You have a deeply devotional nature, and are very dedicated to home and family. In fact, family obligations may preclude commitment to a primary or traditional marriage relationship. There are themes of self-sacrifice and possible aversion to or avoidance of sexual intimacy in your life. Religious beliefs or spiritual choices might take precedence over traditional marriage.

Ceres opposed Vesta
You may feel you have to choose between spiritual or family obligations and the support of a mutually nurturing relationship. Parents might oppose your spiritual choice, and you could find it necessary to forego their support and approval in order to follow your beliefs. A deep sense of sacrifice may be involved in your devotion to your path. Finding or creating a balance is crucial for you. Avoid seeing the situation in either/or terms, and try to allow room for both emotional and spiritual fulfillment in your life.

Ceres trine or sextile Vesta
You find great satisfaction in the role of parenting. You are easily able to offer nurturing and support while honoring a deep devotion and commitment to spirituality. You have a highly developed sense of duty, which naturally reaches out to those who need your nurturing. You are a natural care giver, and may often be in the role of spiritual mother. You may feel called upon to sacrifice personal intimacy needs in order to fulfill family and/or spiritual obligations.

Ceres square Vesta
You may have difficult choices to make between spiritual or family obligations and supportive, nurturing relationships. Parents might oppose your spiritual choice, and you could find it necessary to forego their support and approval in order to be true to your beliefs. A sacrifice could be required in your commitment to your path. Try to avoid seeing the situation in either/or terms, and allow room for both emotional and spiritual fulfillment in your life. Resolving this dilemma will create great strength of character.

Ceres quintile Vesta
You are gifted at giving nurturance and support within a context of spiritual devotion and commitment. As a parent, you foster dedication to duty and honoring commitments, while still offering deep, nurturing closeness. Your love is deeply rooted in spirituality and your ideal is unconditional love and respect. You have a deep sense of duty, which naturally reaches out to those who need your nurturing. You are a natural care giver, and may often be in the role of spiritual mother.

Ceres septile Vesta
Your relationships with parents and/or children have a karmic or spiritual dimension, adding a very deep sense of obligation and duty to the close and nurturing bonds. You may be aware of an invisible guiding hand that shapes your life and guides your decisions. Some sacrifices may be required, but you never seriously question the rightness of your commitment. A sense of mission or destiny underlies your devotion to duty.

Ceres quincunx Vesta
There is probably a lack of compatibility or connection between your sense of spiritual commitment and your most supportive and nurturing relationships. You may find it necessary to forego sexual intimacy for the sake of family or religious obligations. Or you may have to sacrifice family support in order to be true to your spiritual beliefs. You find it very challenging to bring your sense of duty and your need for nurturing and intimacy into a harmonious balance. Many efforts will be made, but often with less than satisfactory results. There seems to be a riddle or a paradox involved in this situation, but your efforts at resolution will stimulate much personal growth.

More on PALLAS:

Whenever PALLAS is strongly aspected by planets [Mostly MOON, NEPTUNE and JUPITER], the probability of activating the Pineal Gland or 3rd Eye to gain Clairvoyant Gifts rapidly increases.

There might be people who have PALLAS conjunct ANUBIS trine NEPTUNE. They will see ghosts easily [once the 6th Chakra is activated].

Strong PALLAS is sufficient for any human being to develop excellent problem solving skills. NEPTUNE rules our spiritual side and so any aspect of NEPTUNE to PALLAS triggers problem solving using Spiritual Power OR Solving problems in our spiritual life. A square would stress us into this action, a trine or sextile would easily give us solutions. A conjunction would intensify our desire for spiritual solutions.

The Houses of NEPTUNE and PALLAS explains further dynamics. NEPTUNE in 3rd rules Data Collection on Spiritual Subjects. PALLAS in 7th is aggressive problem solving in relationships. NEPTUNE square PALLAS in this case would allow the person to overcome difficult situations in relationships by collecting enough data to aggressively solve the problem. It can be psychological data or Occult Data as NEPTUNE also rules Psychology.

Those with PALLAS conjunct HYGEIA conjunct JUPITER may heal with sheer force of the Mind by visualizing healing light from the Pineal Gland. Sure, others can do this too with practice but if it takes hours to have a noticeable change in normal people, the people with aspects will deliver results in minutes.

PALLAS square HEKATE conjunct ERIS is an example of a potential to be a powerful black magician who will use chaos to attain his goals.

PALLAS conjunct SIVA will give amazing mastery of Yoga in breathing and sensing the Prana of breath inside the Mind.

PALLAS conjunct KAALI will allow Kundalini to safely rise to the 6th Chakra and stay there as long as the Yogi chooses.
