hmmm you can sort of adapt a few... but as far as I've seen and read there is only one purposefully named for a demon... Asmodeus. 2174
his mother was a daughter of Adam and Eve, Naomi... His father was one of the grigori... Naomi rebelled against her kinfolk, and joined Lilith...
myths are scant...
Asmodeus was once a god, as with many of the Assyrian, Babylonian, Mesopatamian cultures/religions...
Asmodeus is often associated with vedic usha and asura, and akkadian ascherah.... (astarte)...
so his demon form is sort of based off those figures, as warped through the Judeo-Christian abolition of pagan deities.
Interestingly enough, Asmodeus actually serves as a love deity (or by biblical mess - a lust demon), and fortune (or by biblical mess - greed)... he's the trickster (Hermes/Mercury) figure in Talmudic lore... giving Solomon the boot for having him waste his time labouring on the temple... he was obsessively enchanted with Sarah, whose father wanted to see her married, Asmodeus kills each suitor who enters her bed chambers until Tobias is able to chase him away (with the help of the archangel Raphael)... with a stinky fish... (basically). (The actual text says she had prayed for death... but we all know women had no voice in the bible, so of course she was happy to marry her cousin.) The tale is actually a good indicator of that period in literature and events... so, I won't slight it for that~ but, they could have used any Sumerian deity who was considered "pagan" in it and gotten the same thing... *grains*
So he's seen as a incubus, as well as a prince/king of hell.
Likely his name has to do with "dawn" or "reflecting light" or "brilliance"... and in its deus/dai - it shows that he was at least once a deity who managed to preserve some of his true office.
there is also a Bal - which you can use as Baal/Bael ~ 8678
I believe there are others, but I don't have the time to go through my chart where I listed them...
It's funny trying to find demonic asteroids though, you would think there'd be a few others... since there are so many biblical ones/religious ones...
but angels and demons are scant...
Lucifer/Lilith
and demons of Vedic/Greek ages... that's really it though!
Maybe it has to do with fear though... as a demonologist, I fancy that most people are familiar with the whole "don't say its name aloud, don't repeat the name" superstition.
So, I figure that's why...
These are the same people who believe baelzebub - Haddad, is some kind of monster fly...
/andIdielaughingatthisabsurdity/
Anyway, Asmodeus was pretty f-g cool, actually... he would rather break his own limbs than cause harm to the elderly... he was kind to the lost, poor, and ill as well.
But, then again... Christian demons are always going to be seen as no more than fairytales and evil (pagan) monsters...
Zeus killed more good men in 10 years, than Asmodeus killed in the Book of Tobit and the rest of his documented history...
So.... who is the demon?
lol ~ I'll update the others if you need them for something. I just have to give the lists a look over... there really aren't too many that can be used from the goethic/christian realm though... sorry!~ (And, if you want a list of the "good" demons from all religions/regions, or "bad" demons from a select one or other... just let me know) ^^;
I do wish they'd add some... I always check for Haddad/Hadad, Dagan/Dagon... to join the rest of their celestial families, but it just doesn't look like they're many people who want them remembered or honoured the same...
there is no actual Anat yet either though...
could use Greek,
Anahtar 19860
(sister to Hadad)
(but Anat, Enay/Anay, Enith/Anath...) ^^;
