 | posted June 14, 2013 05:41 AM While we have asteroids for the former three, we don`t have one for Seth.
However I just came upon the information that apparently Plutarch equated the Egyptian Seth with the Greek Typhon.
I put Typhoon into my chart, and it fits so neatly with my other Egyptian asteroids, actually it is a wee bit scary. lol OSIRIS 7°50 Cap

 | posted June 15, 2013 12:00 AM Sethos - (Greek) Set = Seth (os, masculine-singular ending) #5009
there is also Sette #8885 (still no Echidna for Typhon however there is Vipera #7464 "she viper" = Echidna, and Lameia #248 isn't too far off either by Hyginus & Stesichorus's counts since Scylla is either daughter of Ceto(as Eket)/Phorcys, or Echidna as Lamia/Lameia... queen or not...) ^^; it gets confusing after that though... - you may also want to compare placements with Sethos/Sette to Serqet (Serket), consort of Sutek/Sutech (Sutek is another variation of the same divinity) - Set has many name variations... Suta being perhaps the earliest. (My own nameology/etymology research leads me to believe this name ties into the Sanskrit Suta, for "son", perchance... but the meaning has not been validated by any historian/Egyptologist for certain and probably never will.) The only similarity that Plutarch drew upon in comparing Set to Typhon was that both symbolize usurpers, in relation to Set's involvement in the Osiris mythos. Set predates Osiris. The Typhon stuck with Set due to the ambiguous hieroglyph that was used to represent him, still referred to as the "Typhonic beast" (it's also still a topic of speculation today, some say it is a fennec fox (or salawa, some form of kitsune), others have said it represents the aardvark, or~giraffe, others jackal, and later he was further demonized as a donkey/mule... but, in all relevance to the surviving myths, and my own personal opinion... it's likely a boar. Set was also worshiped in a fish form in some regions for a time, like Dagan.) ~shrug~ The Osiris/Set myth functions a lot like the tales of Ouranos/Uranus and Zeus/Jupiter and his kin... it explains a division of celestial bodies by Set, (Set himself is much like Kronos/Saturn). The tales are not identical, but the meaning behind them, what they try to explain to those ancient people is the same on many levels. Unfortunately, as with all those legends... we've lost the better part of them to "the conquering" religion at the time... in this case it was Isis-Osiris who stole the show away from early Sutek-Serqet...(Nephthys really isn't very strongly connected to Set, compared to Isis and Neith and Serket she is "young", a newer addition or a refurbished and/or foreign epithet.) In any case, I just mean to point out that Set was not always as simply described as he is so often today, the evil incarnate god of the ancient Egyptians... he was a storm, agriculture, fertility/virility, war, and protector god first. As well as show for others how he may be interpreted in astrological terms that are more familiar, he is a Saturnian figure. He breaks apart the old (chaos; Osiris), and gives way to order, rebirth (Isis-Nephthys, the siblings/pantheon), and helps uphold the cycle for new growth (Horus)... "the necessary evil", if you will. (alright!!! well... ) ~I won't go on any further! lol ^^; ~nini! <3 IP: Logged |

 | posted June 15, 2013 04:50 AM thank you for this wealth of informaion.
I donīt want to sound arrogant, but it is rare these days that I come across mythological references and patterns that I haven`t known before, but this one is totally new to me. And I am thankful for you sharing it, as I am always thirsty for knowledge. Well my asteroid KARMA is on 16 Gemini on the fixed star Rigel in the Orion-system, and I believe that is associated with the urge to accumulate information and knowledge. Additionally my NESSUS is on Betelgeuse, another Orion-star, but I do not like to think about that. lol IP: Logged |

 | posted June 15, 2013 06:25 AM Ok, then probably it is just another sign that I should be careful undertaking journeys across water
(Atlantis, Neptune and Poseidon all conjunct my ASC and are quinkunx Lucifer and Typhon). BTW Sethos is on 3.1 Aries in my chart conjunct Aura, Gaeia, Alma, magion on the IC, and o course quinkunx Nephtys.
Sette is on 21.1 Leo. Dr Sette is conjunct my NN. IP: Logged | |
