pretty sure the Q/bQ are somewhere on here already, maybe even the Qd.
I find that at least half the time a mythological figure is attached to some astrological concept newly named or existing for a hundred years - astrology always (always) fails to acknowledge the other side of their story or character, or they just get things completely wrong and go with it... nothing even needs to have a meaning anymore.
rx for example - every non calculated object at x distance, from ~MC until nearly the 2nd house is in Rx motion.
no matter what there will be clusters of hundreds and thousands of bodies moving Rx...
not that it means absolutely nothing, but ---- it comes down to distance at the very least... it's not Mercury after all.
Pholus is NOT one of the "mad" Centauros, he is from a different lineage, either Apollon's or another of Kronos's children. Even his name denotes his brilliance.
The effect of breaking free from tradition, as well as maintaining traditions/customs - are each part of his domain, his duty.
The effects of a transit Pholus and the place he falls in the houses of your chart can show areas where there will be pressure brought on you by others to either hold your ground or cave in, like Pholus you will not have an easy option there, it is the "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" scenario.
Pholus had to uphold the Greek law, Xenia
Herakles was a guest and extending hospitality to everyone was one of the four pillars of ancient Greek cultural custom. To be inhospitable to anyone, let alone a demigod would have meant punishment from the Erinyes, Furies, Damiones, or Zeus himself.
On the other hand, he was in charge of maintaining what symbolically represented the "wisdom and culture" of his tribe of Centaurs. Their legacy was the wine, but just like Pandora's mistake, Herakles couldn't have known what would be released when those potions were opened. It was Pholus's folly, and Herakles's ignorance.
Instead of viewing it solely as an area where some form of explosive force is felt, I suggest viewing Pholus in a similar light as Prometheus + Damocles. The wisdom Pholus in the chart holds, could explode with what it touches, wonderfully so... or erupt into chaos, a hornet's nest... so while, you can continue to see it that way... it's only half the picture. Pholus wants to be prepared, he wants to stand his ground and do what is right for everyone. But, sometimes, that just isn't possible, is it?
My Pholus is triggered very easily, and fairly often, by transit and in the relations of daily life.
Of course, I have Eris there... and Venus-Uranus in trine. I like the chaos.
I'm Steve Urkel-immune to it, I guess. ~shrug~
